Description:

I´m crazy about these little fabric circles!! They´re named Yo-Yos!!

As I couldn´t find any fabric Yo-Yo swap here, I decided to start one. If it´s a hit, this will be the first of many to come!! =D

The swap:

You´ll have 2 (two) partners. You´ll send 30 random Fabric Yo-Yos, at any size, to each partner - total of 60 fabric yo-yos.

You can (might) use different fabric, with different motifs, just let your imagination flow!!

International.

Everyone is welcome, as long as you have a complete filled profile (I´ll read all). If you have "no sends", please, write me a message telling why. I believe in unfair bad ratings and I know there are postage problems.

Ok, girls, start sewing! And let´s have fun!!! =D

I recently read where you can use metal washers from the hardware store to help make these. Place the fabric around the metal washer to press the fabric with the iron. It is heat proof and it makes nice, crisp edges. I've always wanted to do these!

Could you, please, send me a pic of this tool? I only know a plastic circle where you put the fabric...

Thanks for joining! =D

Wel´ll have a lot of fun!!

retaffdwife 12/12/2007 #

I took a class at the library to learn how to make these a few years back, now I use the Clover YoYo makers and I am having a ball making them, now to decide what to make with them

Tatiswaps 12/12/2007 #

Yes, Retaffdwife, this is the great doubt from most of you. Weel, I suggest embellishing bags and pillows; using the yo-yos to make cards (I made one and I loved the result, it just depends on the fabric pattern you´ll use); me and my mom are making a Christmas Garland with yo-yos to put on our front door... you can also put them on clothes.

I think the ideas are many. just let your imagination flows! ;)

Thanks for participating.

Hugs, Tatiswaps.

I was wondering what colors and sizes most of you find useful? I use a lot of white and cream color ones for embellishments. If you do some google searches for fabric yo yos and yo yo crafts, you'll see quite a few ideas for using them.

Tatiswaps 12/16/2007 #

Pearlie, I think we could random colors and patterns... what do you think? What everybody thinks? =)

I would love to join in this swap. I just received a clover yoyo maker for a Christmas present. I could just imagine all the different fabrics I'll receive. Like others, I don't have a clue what to do with this little cuties, but I agree with sending random colours, fabrics, shapes (heart, circle or flower) and sizes. Fun.

Dear Outback girl, I´m very happy with you joining this swap. As I said above to Retaffdwife, there´s a lot of things we can make with these "little cuties" (quoting you LOL). For example, embellish pillows, bags and clothes... my mom made a Christmas garland with yo-yos and I made a card with them, with the fabric as a theme. =)

I ran across your swap while surfing the net for Yo Yo Patterns. I can't wait to get started making Yo Yo's for the swap.

Tatiswaps 12/19/2007 #

Thanks for joining, Mamaskeeto! =)

I am so excited about this swap too!

Please, let people know about this swap, it´ll be fun!!

Hugs to you all. Any doubts, I´m here for you.

I haven't joined the swap, haven't decided if I want to make 60 yo-yo's yet.. But I have made plenty of Yo's Yo's in the past. I made a quilt from over 300 6 inch Yo's Yo's for charity and this year made Yo Yo ornaments for christamd ornament.

Tatiswaps 12/27/2007 #

Dear Joonybug, it´s a challenge... It´d be awsome if you joined... I hope you change your mind!! =)

Many hugs to you!!

I finally decided to join, I must admit I love making YO's Yo's... and look forward to getting some from people who have a total different taste in fabric... Since I love fabric I am sure I will love looking at every YO YO..

Tatiswaps 01/ 4/2008 #

Effie, I´m sure you´ll have fun!! =D

Thanks for joining, dear! Welcome!!

I do have a question.. I don't use any tools, except anything the round size i want to trace the circles on.. Now, the question ... with traditional YO Yo's for quilts the edge is turned under, and for crafts they are left with the raw edge..

Which way do you what the yo yo's done?? Turned under edge or raw edge??

Thanks..

pearlie 01/ 4/2008 #

My vote is for turned under edge. I make mine using anything round as a template and always turn the edge for a more finished look.

Tatiswaps 01/ 5/2008 #

Girls, you can make them the way you prefer!! This is the fun part, to exchange different ways of making the same thing. ;)

Many hugs!!

Speaking of what to do with YoYos. I was looking at things on ETSY today and saw a necklace of YoYos. Take a look:
