If you do not own any animal postcards, go out and buy some before joining. NO handmade animal postcards are allowed. You must be a good swapper to join up, I will be on the lookout for people with too many no sends. There will be three partners, so send one animal postcard to three people. International people are welcome to join. Postcards should be written and stamped, unless your partners profile says otherwise. Have fun!

Discussion

I have professionally printed postcards with a picture of my dog on them. Does this work, or does it have to be a wild animal?

GypsyDyann 12/11/2007 #

Animals only or do birds like eagles count??? Do we mail the postcards--or put in envelopes to mail???

Lake 12/13/2007 #

A regular postcard that has an animal on it is fine. Animal meaning mammal, non egg laying. Warm blooded, fur wearing (mostly), animal is a mammal, as opposed to a fish, bird, etc.

Lake 12/13/2007 #

You should just put a stamp on the postcard and mail it, unless your partner wants them in an envelope. I would suggest if you want your postcards sent to you in an envelope, to say so in your profile.

Lake 12/13/2007 #

A regular postcard means it has been printed as a postcard and nothing is glued together such as a cut magazine photo glued to a cardboard is not a postcard. Also, sending a photograph is not a postcard, unless you had it professionally made into a postcard, then it would be a postcard.

Lake 12/13/2007 #

I don't always look at the discussion, so you can post a question here, but please pm me to let me know about any questions. Thanks. :)

Lake 12/13/2007 #

If you are still unsure about what you have is a postcard, you can always buy some in a gas station (or ask the clerk where to find postcards), gift shop at any attraction, Wal-Mart sometimes has them, Walgreens usually does have them, grocery stores, online at eBay or for the best postcards check out http://www.pomegranateartbooks.com and look for postcards on their website.

GypsyDyann 12/13/2007 #

Hmmmmm---well, maybe I'll pass on this one then--I worked at a wildlife Rehabilitation place and often got postcards from the gift shop to send to people, and I seem to have an overabundance of eagle ones left, and I was looking for a good home to send them off to!!! But since Eagles lay eggs-----well---YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT TIME WITH THIS SWAP!!! Maybe I'll catch you in another swap!

Lake 12/13/2007 #

We could do a bird postcard swap at some point, I also have bird postcards. :)

magasary 12/16/2007 #

Is it also ok to send a card that has a drawing of an anima on it? The drawings are made by one of the wellknown childerns artist of the netherlands and realy cute :)

Lake 12/16/2007 #

I guess a drawing of an animal is okay, although when I think of animal postcards, photo postcards come to mind. It's up to you if you want to use those or not. I don't think anyone would complain about them. :)

keroleen73 12/19/2007 #

Magasary - If it's Miffy or the Very Hungry Caterpillar you are more than welcome to send them to me :-)

nicole 01/ 1/2008 #

You may want to clarify that you mean MAMMALS in the title of the swap. I joined and then dropped because no where in the swap description does it say MAMMALS except in the comments.

Birds and Lizards and such ARE animals.

Lake 01/ 1/2008 #

Send the bird or lizard if you want to. Would you want a bird or lizard for an animal postcard? If you would be equally happy receiving a bird or lizard, then send them.

amberlantern 01/ 6/2008 #

Animal, Schmanimal. I'm sending dogs. They are cute. And warm. Furry too. Yep, dogs it is.

ladydy5 01/ 7/2008 #

Someone is making this difficult. Just for fun, remember....Just send a darn animal, four legged, not a bird this coordinator said. Alizard has four legs, an alligator has four legs but not a bird.

babysingsing 01/ 9/2008 #

I have some great postcards with animals on them, but there are also people in the pictures. Would those be ok? I just wanted to check before I sign up for this swap.

kiki 01/ 9/2008 #

I have some nice whale cards, could I send those? Whales are warm-blooded and don't lay eggs, but they don't have legs, so....? Could I?

nicole 01/ 9/2008 #

Lady.. the point is the title says "ANIMAL" swap. Then it is changed to "MAMMALS" in the comments. i don't want negative feedback because i sent a bird... a bird is an animal.. like the actual swap description asks for.

kiki... Whales are mammals, i believe. So are dolphins... but no legs.

kiki 01/ 9/2008 #

so whales are animals, then?

RoseHips 01/ 9/2008 #

I have a rather large collection of insect postcards. I recently ordered a set entitled "Millipedes of Africa." Would it be OK to send millipede postcards???

LOLA 01/ 9/2008 #

Darn! I have been wanting to join a postcard swap because I have these gorgeous postcards of a Leafy Sea Dragon against a black background purchased at the Georgia Aquarium. It is truly a beautiful creature and it is more of an artsy card. It is silver white against a black background. Please keep me posted on any non-fur, no leg animal postcards in the future please, as I think someone would love what I have.

LOLA 01/ 9/2008 #

My mistake, please excuse my ignorance. I meant non-animal postcard swap. My leafy seadragon (seahorse) is a fish?

RudeNun 01/ 9/2008 #

I have a postcard with Big Foot on it, unsure if that one would be okay? Clarification please.

Ohhhh yeah!

RudeNun 01/ 9/2008 #

babysingsing, maybe you could put a black strip over the people's eyes?

kiki 01/ 9/2008 #

It has to have four legs, RudeNun, and Bigfoot only has two. Can we draw a picture of an animal and send that? Because I only have whale cards, and they don't have legs. Can I draw an animal with legs?

RudeNun 01/ 9/2008 #

kiki Bigfoot has 4 limbs. I think that should count.

Changeling 01/ 9/2008 #

Please, no dinosaur postcards for me. I don't know if they are animals or lizards but they can represent Evolution. So please do not force your beliefs down my throat with this swap! The same goes for whales with legs if it comes to this.

RudeNun 01/10/2008 #

:(

onlyincambodia 01/10/2008 #

For those of you whose postcards don't "fit" into this swap, try the swap I created: ALL LIVING THINGS Postcard Swap. Follow the URL:

kathysemone 01/10/2008 #

Just for the record: Mammals are warm-blooded, air breathing, milk producing animals. Whales are mammals, as are seals and dolphins.

Birds are egg laying and have feathers. Penquins and eagles are both birds

Reptiles, including amphibians, are cold blooded and primarily egg laying. Snakes, lizards are reptiles, turtles are amphibians.

All of the above categories are animals.

I volunteer in a zoo so I had to learn about these things.

I hope this helps with the discussion of what is an animal.

Kathy (aka clothqueen)

Missysmom 01/10/2008 #

I think a few of you should take your tongues out of your cheeks- interesting discussion here. No, I will not be joining this one. No time :)

Lake 01/11/2008 #

I don't understand why people are so funny here. They buy a postcard of something else, and complain and complain until they get their way. If I had a "yellow" postcard swap, people will complain and say my blue postcard is made with yellow so I should be able to use my blue postcard. A POSTCARD ONLY COSTS .25 CENTS go out and buy an animal postcard. I was nice before and felt badgered but come on if you can not buy a .25 cent postcard, how can you do other swaps? SEND AN ANIMAL PLEASE! Or drop and use your lizard postcard in another swap. There are hundreds of swaps, why complain so much to use a lizard postcard for an ANIMAL swap? I was nice before but this takes the fun out of it.

cori431 01/11/2008 #

Nicely put, Lake.

nicole 01/12/2008 #

The reason for the comments is because you state it is an ANIMAL postcard swap.. then later state in comments that you mean a totally different thing.

People don't want to risk getting a bad rating for sending a card which should be fine according to the main swap description... to later see the description changed in comments.

It's similar to if you said... "Send a Yellow Postcard" Then later saying that it must be ONLY "Buttercup Yellow" and any other shades of yellow dont count.

bundabergsangel 01/13/2008 #

I prefer mine to be in an envie please =)

ladydy5 01/13/2008 #

Wow, some of you are too much. It is only a swap who cares if you send the wrong picture. If you don't know an animal from a mammal or fish you are in big trouble here. Insects? my goodness, some one really needs to go back to grade school.

junemoon 01/13/2008 #

Reading these comments has given me my recommended daily dose o laughs. I've sent my post cards and I look forward to whatever kind of creature my partners want to send me.

amberlantern 01/14/2008 #

I agree with Junemoon, this is a funny lot of comments! Mine are sent too and I can't wait to see what animals show up in my P.O. Box!

frankcheez 01/16/2008 #

I just sent mine, and am now reading through all of these comments and...WOW! That's all I can say. Wow. You people are amazing. Take that as you will. I find it incredible how anthropocentric some of you are. Have you never taken a freshman bio class in your life? Perhaps you should check out The Animal Diversity Web and do some reading. All those things they list on the very first page there - are animals ! Hard to believe, I know.

And Changeling - it's really sad that you consider a postcard with a picture of a dinosaur to be someone "forcing their beliefs down your throat." And if you don't believe in evolution, why have a name like Changeling when all evolution is is change over time?

frankcheez 01/16/2008 #

Sorry, the link didn't work. Here's the URL:

ladydy5 01/17/2008 #

Lola, hope you will send me a postcard with the leafy sea animal, I've seen them and they are pretty.

ladydy5 01/19/2008 #

Andrea: You are so funny . The card was an Eagle which I think is a BIRD. But being it is a beautiful card *I still rated you a 5. Just that I don't understand people sometimes and I have been around a long time.

keroleen73 01/20/2008 #

I posted my cards on Saturday :)

amberlantern 01/26/2008 #

Blondie78 sent me a HOME MADE card with a photo of a FISH on it "postcard". I almost laughed out loud at the post office. After all the comments here....Well, I thank you just the same, Blondie and will give you a five since I know that effort went into making this card. It would have been easier to buy one with an "animal" though!
