Description:

Which Greek Goddess Are You?

For this block, you will take the Greek Goddess Quiz and determine which one you are. You will then make a block that shows us your depiction of her. Make sure to include a note telling your partner which goddess you turned out to be, and also tell your partner something you share in common with this goddess

Make sure and put time and effort into this!

The finished block will be 9". This will give enough space for a creative canvas for each square.

The Goddess will be an appliqué design on a cotton block.

The goddess can be a full body, a close-up of her face, a profile, etc. EDIT: This can be an INTERPRETATION as well, so if she's also an animal, you can make her one, or you can create symbols to interpret her, be creative, or abstract, or impressionistic--whatever you like. Just MAKE SURE to explain things to your partner when you send your note

Place the goddess in the center of the block, or as close as possible.

The goddess should be between 5 -7 inches tall. She can be made of any material you like OR be embroidered.

The background should be a good contrast or compliment to the goddess. Get out your colour wheels!

You can decorate the block itself, if you feel moved, with embroidery or appliqué. Let’s stick to the theme when it comes to decoration.

For these blocks let’s not use bobbles and dangly bits that might come off when getting washed. I’d like this quilt to be useable.

So, I know it says, but I am not clear. The squared block should be 9" so when added to a quilt finished it would be 8.5"? Or should be 9.5" with finished size being 9"?

Also, does this mean the goddess needs to be a humanoid shape, or perhaps (depending on the goddess) a animal shape? Or, if for instance I quized to Gaia, could I interpret that as a applique of the earth, or perhaps applique of a wildly growing garden. etc.

I got Demeter. Pretty cool. But I can't applique!!! :(

I got Athena, no surprise there. Too bad I also cannot participate in this swap, good idea though :-)

Good questions @vagbonindigo

This goddess will be your interpretation, so it can be human or animal or a representation. I'll add the edit into the swap info above.

If you can't applique, you could always embroider, or maybe do an interpretation with fabric?...

Oh, also, the Finished size after everything is 9" block, which includes a 1/2 inch seam allowance. so it's 8.5 + .5 = 9.
