Description:

I like making all kinds of books but lately, paper bag journals have been keeping me busy. They are small, fast and inexpensive to make. I participated in the Paper Art Journal swap here on Swap-bot back in May.

The idea for this swap is to make 3 individual paper bag pages and send to 3 partners. Then you will receive 3 different pages in the mail. If this swap is popular, we'll do it again to make our journals fatter and art-ier!

There are several paper bag art journal tutorials to help you get started. You can also look on Flickr and Google for ideas.

You will take your paper bag - I'm talking lunch bag size, 10.5" x 5.25" x 3.25" - folded in half. You will have 4 surfaces to decorate, and you can decorate the flap, or cover it. It is ARTIST'S CHOICE. You do not have to poke holes - that will be up to the receiver. You can choose a theme or do 4 random arty scenes. You can start your journal now by making a page for yourself and a cover if you wish.

These pages are ARTIST's CHOICE but if you want to wait until partners are assigned and make themed pages that s/he will like, that's fine too. You may want to add a section to your profile and list some themes you LOVE - you can also list them below.

This swap will be open to swappers in GOOD standing - I do check profiles. No recent or unexplained 1's or 3's. And this swap is for folks who want to try something new - not just use scrap booking stuff and call it finished.

so, we would be sending one paper bag with 4 pages to three people, or do we just decorate one paperbag, cut it up and divide it ampngst the three people?

I have done several paper bag journals and love making them, I do the one from papertrail utube video. Just so I have it right. take 3 lunch bags, fold in half. decorate each side.you can either use the flap for part of your page or glue it down. send one bag to 3 people. is that how you want it done?

Yes, so each swapper ends up with several kinds/types of art to make their own journal. In the paper bag journal swap, I made a whole journal and sent it out - and that's hard to do when you've worked on something that major. This way, we can each build an art journal, include our own pages, as well as pages from other folks.

And yes, you have four (or 5) surfaces, "pages" to decorate on each folded bag. The postage should be minimal because we are just sending one bag in an envelope.

There is a Flickr group for Swap-bot peeps and their paper bag journals:

(Sorry, I still don't know how to make the links workable - someone else can do it if they know how.)

I would love to try this, but I have never made one. Do you mind if I join this swap and give it a try?

smmarrty 09/ 2/2011 #

Sure - give it a try. It's just paper crafting on a new medium.

I would love to give this a try, too! I have only made one paperbag book before and I enjoyed it immensely. It should be fun to swap and collect pages!

Don't forget - you can add a little something or another piece of art in the open-side of the bags....ephemera, another piece of art, cout-outs or punches.

Not required - just a suggestion!

cut, not cout
