Radiohead, The Animal Collective, Wilco, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Olivia Tremor Control, Modest Mouse, Xiu Xiu, The Beatles, The Arcade Fire, The Fiery Furnaces, The Zombies, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell, Madvillian, The Unicorns, Bright Eyes, CocoRosie, The Magic Numbers, My Morning Jacket, The National, Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear, Sigur Ros, Randy Newman, David Bowie, T-Rex - and lots of others!
Ender's Game is my favorite fiction book (and I can always read a good sci-fi). But I mostly read Non-Fiction. I love books on Christian Spirituality (right now I'm reading lots about Eastern Orthdoxy). But my most regular "go to" read is always a cookbook. I have a large collection of cookbooks, and I'm always looking for more! I like cookbooks that are considered "essential" - like Julia Child, Marcella Hazan, James Beard, Mark Bittman. I love cookbooks with narrative about the recipes and etiquette. I especially love depression era cookbooks and cookbooks that focus on simple cooking - and simple living.
I love cartoons! Especially Disney cartoons (not a fan of all the merchandise though) - and the Pixar films are some of my all time favorite movies. I could watch them all over and over again (Up is my newest go to). I love movies like Amelie - I don't know what "genre" that is. I love Hayao Miyazaki. I love magic and fairy tales! I also love good acting - so hello Christian Bale, George Clooney, and Jon Hamm! The Coen brothers never let me down. I have a soft spot for classics - anything Marlan Brando, Fred Astaire, my dearest Charlie Chaplin. And musicals are just so much fun!
South Park really makes me laugh, and of course the Simpsons. I'm indifferent to most sitcoms, but I really enjoyed the 1st season of Desperate Housewives I was able to watch through my Netflix streaming. Nickelodeon's "Avatar the Last Airbender" was a masterpiece and took my breath away on several occasions. Of course I loving cooking shows - Julia Child is my favorite - and baking is always fun to watch, and I love hearing about different food from different cultures and such...seems like there's lots of shows about that around lately.
I'm really involved in quilting! I'm part of the Modern Quilt Guild of Knoxville. Quilting, and any small project I can sew - that's my passion right now! I'm addicted to modern fabrics, vintage sheets, and 30s reproductions. I love machine sewing because of it's versatility, but I have a soft spot for hand sewing and crafting. I love painting...but I'm not terribly good at it. I'm slowly becoming more proficient at hand embroidery but I still have a long way to go. I hope to get better at crafting trinkets and little goodies - because right now, my skills are a little lacking in that area! I love color. Most of my crafting occurs because I'm trying to add color to something or some part of my life.
Some favorites: Colors: Turquoise, Coral, Aqua, Orange, Yellow, Pink, Lime Green, Purple, Charcoal Gray
Fabric Designers: Anna Maria Horner, Denyse Schmidt, Heather Ross, Heather Bailey, Urban Chiks, Tula Pink, Melody Miller I love and collect small prints and 30s reproductions. Big prints are fun, but I find myself using the small quirky prints more regularly.
I am a twenty something graphic designer/machine embroiderer/wife to my husband. We're still trying to figure out where our life is headed - but it is my dream to one day be a stay at home mom and homemaker. We've recently converted to Orthodoxy, so our life has been revolving around that lately - as it encompasses many life changes. I love cooking and baking (I can whip up some killer cupcakes), wish I could do a better job keeping up my house, love my husband, and adore our two little doggies, Busby and Gershwin (Yorkies!). We bought our house just over 2 years ago I think, and it's still so bare! I'm working hard to make things to add character to our walls and tables and bookshelves. It's not a quick process, but it sure is fun!
