I am a former art student who is trying to regain my creative voice after a few years. I medically retired before becoming the primary caregiver for my mom (who recently passed from frontotemporal dementia) and for my husband (who is alive and who has many complicated health issues).
My creative urges in the past have made me into a "Jill of all trades" meaning I have dabbled in most types of arts and crafts... some for personal enjoyment and some professionally. I was a goldsmith, a weaver, a florist (for a short time), took enough ceramics in college for it to be considered a minor degree program, and have tried my hand at several forms of drawing and painting.
My main hobby since childhood has been to be a member of a living history group, the Society for Creative Anachronism (the SCA). I joke that my hobby has hobbies. Also through the SCA, I have been traveling and "glamping" (before it was called that) for many years.
In alphabetical order... because who can choose their favorites in order?
baking, book binding, cake decorating, candle making, ceramics, cooking, costuming, cross stitching, drawing, embroidery, fiber arts, goldsmithing, journaling, jewelry making, knitting, kumihimo, leatherworking, macrame, metalworking, mixed media collage, mosaics, painting, paper crafts, quilling, quilting, rug making, sculpture, silversmithing, stained glass, weaving, woodworking, zentangle.
I collect images of butterflies (their symbolism speaks to me). Currently have a large dog (a very cute Malinois) and have lived with other dogs over the years. Generally prefer larger dogs over smaller ones. I used to have cats (my first was a siamese, followed by many non-specific cat breeds). Love horses and ponies but have never owned one. Recently started a collection of mermaids, octopuses, otters, and unicorns. I used to collect koalas and shoes.
I also love to travel. Haven't been everywhere yet... but it's on my list. I enjoy going to museums, galleries, and historical sites.
Music is also a large part of my life. I don't currently play any instruments, but in the past I played flute, guitar, and the piano. I still sing sometimes. I enjoy most types of music, although my favorite two are probably folk and hard rock.
For books, movies and television... I enjoy most genres except horror. Favorites are probably adventures, biographies, dramas, fantasy, historical, or sci-fi. Some favorites include: Alice in Wonderland, All Creatures Great and Small, BBC News documentaries, Bull, Charley and the Chocolate Factory, The Daily Show, Doctor Who, FBI/FBI Most Wanted, Firefly/Serenity, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, Harry Potter, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Ken Burns documentaries, Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Law and Order (and spinoffs), Marvel and DC Multiverse, Masterpiece Theater, Midsomer Murders, Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries, PBS programming, Queen Elizabeth, Rankin and Bass Christmas specials, Riviera, Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, Star Wars, Various memoirs/biographies, Victoria, the list goes on and on...
