I just watch the news-- I am a nerd!
I am a social worker by day, a frustrated crafter by night. I like to be outside (but not in the cold) enjoying the city or nature, depends on my mood.
I was married a little over a year ago (we had a "planned elopement" to Cape Town, South Africa) and then we moved here to NYC. My husband and I love to travel, and we have been to England, Australia, Spain, Iceland, and southern Africa together. I also did an post-college tour through continental Europe with my sister.
We have a dog named Olive and she is our baby! A 70 lbs one, but a baby, nonetheless! She is an Akita-Shepard mix and sheds like there is no tomorrow.
I used to have two hedgehogs as pets, but they have since passed away-- my heart is still broken and I miss them terribly. I started collecting all things hedgehog years ago when I had them, and continue to do so so that I am constantly reminded of my little prickly cuties!
I am passionate about animal rights and welfare, the environment, and right now, politics.
I love music and listen to my ipod all the time (I am on the subway a lot). The Smiths are my favorite band of all time. Also, I love the Cure, Sigur Ros, Bjork, Mum, Stereolab, Interpol, Joy Division, Morrissey, Belle & Sebastian, the Album Leaf, Amiina, DJ Krush, Fugazi, Low, MIA, the Postal Service, Radiohead, and Sonic Youth. Just to name a few. And then I like old detroit techno from the 90s.
Off the top of my head... anything by EM Forster, Haruki Murikami, Ha Jin, JM Coetzee, and Milan Kundera. But I guess my favorite books, the ones I have read millions of times, are "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" and "A Room with a View"
embroidery (and crewel), sewing (still a beginner), paper-cutting (Scherenschnitte), card-making, needle-felting
I love tea (most kinds, but prefer herbals, greens, rooibos), dark chocolate (all kinds/varieties, flavors, etc!), salted caramel, Etsy, dogs (esp. Akitas and German Shepards), hedgehogs, the fall, the colors red and baby blue, terrariums (and miniatures to put in them), plants, Indian food (vegetarian), knee socks, silhouettes...
What I would like to receive: papers, fat quarters, embroidery floss, vintage postcards, maps, crewel embroidery pieces, teas, ribbons, sewing notions, interesting and/or vintage buttons, hedgehog anything, wool (for needle-felting), felt pieces, vegetarian/vegan recipes.... but I love to be surprised most of all! :)
