Well, I was new and thought I'd give this a try but I think the swapping thing is not for me.
The first swap I was on was fun and I've received one of the two packages. It had some great ribbon and other fibers in it but the swap has disappeared from my dashboard so I can't rate the person who sent it to me. I've written to the admins and haven't heard a thing back.
On another swap that I signed up for, the Altoid Emergency Art kit one, I wrote to the person organizing it to explain that I was new but still wanted to join and then joined the swap. I didn't hear back from them at all until today when they were supposed to assign swap partners. I found out I was banned from the swap because I'm new. Now, had I known that earlier, like shortly after I'd written the initial message to her, I wouldn't have started prepping my container or collecting the pieces for an art kit. It's pretty disappointing to find out you're banned from a swap when you've already got a great idea and the pieces for it.
Past that, well, I'm just not all that interested in ATCs so it's hard to find much that I want to do that doesn't also require me to have a dozen or more swaps under my belt already. I'm still signed up for the sticker swap and I've got that package ready to go out today but beyond that, I think I'm done. I'll just keep making stuff and selling it at craft fairs or sending it to friends.
The swapping thing can be a really cool idea but it has been really difficult to get started here. Between the site difficulties with the first swap and then the disappointment with the Altoid Tin one, I haven't had a great experience so far.
