I am a first year student in college, I study linguistics (with a minor in (hopefully) Italian, Sociology, and Chinese studies). I looooove learning languages! Ever since I was born the librarians could find me in the language and culture section at the library where I grew up. I can fluently speak English, advanced in Spanish, and beginner to intermediate with Thai. My first languages from birth to 3 were English and Thai and I'm aiming to regain my Thai.
Culture is a huge part of society and who I am, so I am very close to my Buchanan Clan in Scotland and very intimate with my Thai culture. I do traditional Thai and Scottish dances, I have a traditional Thai outfit as well called a Chut Thai. I'm a huge activist and I mainly focus on Black and Indigenous rights including language revitalization and sharing Black and Indigenous platforms and voices.
I am a Sagittarius Sun, Scorpio Moon, and Capricorn Rising which means that I have big dreams and aspirations and I am persistent enough to make them happen. For instance, I was born and raised in Indiana but I moved to New York alone for college with no support from family. I've wanted to travel my whole life and some of my goals are to sign up for an internship in Thailand for 2 months and spend a fall semester abroad to Scotland!
I am currently rereading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, during this pandemic I've gotten more into reading (as I have faded slightly away while getting older). My all-time favorite books would be: The Scribe of Sienna by Melodie Winawer, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks, and Me Before You by Jojo Moyes.
I love love love books so much that I am subscribed to a subscription called "The Book of the Month" and I've gotten 4 books from them so far from the past 2 months! ~The Book of Longing ~The Two Lives of Lydia Bird ~The Library of Legends ~The Paris Hours
Genres: Classic, Romance, fantasy, and educational
As for my penpal lettering! I am testing out new styles, I have an alphabet set of stamps and I handmade my own envelopes. I prefer to have penpals who are significantly more advanced than I with design because 1) it's inspiring to see, and 2) i gather more ideas to improve my own! However, the most important thing is the letter and the friendship we create through written communication. Things I appreciate in letters:
-- Tea (green, jasmine, lavender, just not black)
-- little handmade stamps or paper things
-- encouraging notes
-- little post cards
-- interesting spells
-- anything relating to your culture or my culture
-- plant pictures
-- dried plants or flowers
-- language tips or phrases
-- interesting vocabulary
