I recently read an article in "Atlus Obscura" - "The most beautiful part of a Taiko drum is hidden inside it. Here is a glimpse. :)
India is mindboggling in its swarming multitude, which makes it filthy & ugly, as well as beautiful & cultivated. Here are some drums from India, which I had the good fortune to experience myself :)
In Pung Cholom, a form of the Manipuri dance, the dancers play upon pung, the drum, and dance while playing the intricate time cycles, executing somersaults and breathtaking acrobatic feats.
During Durga Pooja, during the "Aaratee", which is a ritual of offering lamp-light, incesne-fragrance etc. to the deity in Hindu Poojaas, the "Dhaaki" plays the "Dhaak"
In the northern states, the women have their own groups of Dholki & singing, for all religious funtions (which are MANY), & family functions such as marriages & childbirths. Unfortumnately, the traditional songs are getting lost, & Hindi movie songs are creeping in.
Who would have thought drums could have such a profound impact on a person. I have never entered the Zone myself but a friend of mine says it is incredibly cathartic.
I had one of these a while ago but it got lost in the moving around I've done in the last few years. I would love to get another one!
The most basic of drum beats and probably the inspiration for the first drum.
I have always wanted to join a drum circle but I just never get to the local one.
