Society puts great pressure on young people to have everything figured out after high school. I think giving him that space is the best thing to do, but I know it is hard to be that shield for between what he is "supposed to do" and what he needs for himself. I wish you strength as you become "a real parent."

I agree if your'e really struggling with it, setting it aside might be best. I did like the third draft better, where she tells him "it's visible only to temple maidens," although the smile into a leer in the second one was good too.
