Description:

It's the perfect time to start making a few handmade prayer flags to hang in the garden. This is the fifth time I have hosted this swap, and I know that I treasure each of the handmade prayer flags that I have received. Feel free to join in even if this is your first time making prayer flags.

For this swap, you will make 4 prayer flags.

One for each partner. Please make them approximately 6" x 9", unless your partner specifies otherwise. You may post here, if you have specific requests for the size of the flag you'd like (so it matches the others you already may have).

I prefer cotton fabric, but you may specify here if you prefer another type of fabric. Decorate these creatively... with fabric paint, beads, buttons, or ribbons.

You may even post here if you have a specific prayer or wish you'd like on the flag you receive.

This is INTERNATIONAL, as one flag won't weight very much for mailing/postage

I will check ratings before assigning partners. No recent no-sends or lower than 4.5, unless you PM me to explain.

I am sure there are many tutorials out there for this, but here are two websites to check out if you like: http://www.teras-wish.com/flags.htm http://theprayerflagproject.blogspot.com/p/tutorial.html

Optional: You can even submit a photo of your flag and the prayer with it to be added to the website http://theprayerflagproject.blogspot.com/p/submit-your-prayer-flags.html

do you have a pic of what a prayer flag looks like? i've never made one but would love to join.

Saulute 10/23/2011 #

Very exited to create prayer flags.I would love to receive the prayer flags, that radiate inner peace message.

I added a photo of two prayers from a previous swap. One made by me and one that I received in the swap.

I'd love ones with new agey motifs such as lotus flowers, other flowers, Buddhas, any kind of Hindu motif, meditation, chakras, unconditional love, yoga, peace, enlightenment, sharing, kindness, nature, earth, trees, leaves, the ocean, rain, sun, wind, fire, impermanence, candles/light, Unitarian Universalist chalice, etc. Anything related would be greatly appreciated.

No Wicca/Celtic/witchcraft/pentagrams please.

One question: are we only sending the flags or do we attach them to strings before sending?

hollychihuahua 10/23/2011 #

I have another question. I'm looking on Flickr and seeing that some flags are attached to the string on the wide side and some flags are attached to the string on the narrow side. Which way is the default here? I'd like to get all of my flags oriented in the same direction and also know how to make the ones I send out. Thanks.

Hollychihuahua, Please send them without the string attached. Everyone can string their flags themselves. I think of it as a rectangle with the shorter end at the top with the opening for the string.

I had originally wanted to join this swap, but I got to thinking. My daughter just had a baby, and I have to go help her out for a week and I don't want to end up not meeting the time requirements. I'm so sorry. I love prayer flags. I still have the ones from the original swap and they are over my garden and starting to weather and are absolutely beautiful. Sending their message across the universe. Perhaps later I will join another swap.

I totaly promise to mail on time. I have been a late swapper too many times in the past and I will no longer be doing this. My train reck of a life happen and now things are so much better, the mess is nearly cleaned up.

We leave the edges unfinished, right? So they can fray in the wind.

crescendo 12/15/2011 #

Why am I not surprised that @auntjudy flaked on this swap, and has now deleted her account? She actually did rate me for the one I sent before she disappeared which was odd, but considerate. She marked sent on Dec 1, did anyone receive anything from her? I was wary of her comment above as I had been watching her account periodically throughout this swap period because of it and was 99% expecting she was going to not come through. Meh. I guess we can pray for her and hope she is ok.

Thanks, crescendo! It does look like auntjudy flaked on this swap. Very sad! But I hope you enjoyed the swap despite that.
