Description:

I have hosted a couple rounds of this swap in another group and the results were FABULOUS - so, I'm going to host in this wonderful group now!

You will take a piece of paper suitable for a tangle and draw your Zentangle strings with pencil. Paper can be any size between 3" and 12" (I use 9x12). Then cut your paper into pieces, and mail one piece to each of your partners. Your partner will Zentangle the piece and mail it back to you (at which point you should rate them and thank them), and you will end up with a composite Zentangle made by many different people.

How many partners will you have? That depends on how many people sign up for the swap! If 10 people sign up, you will send to nine people (because you won't send to yourself). If fewer sign up, then you have fewer stamps to buy.

How should you cut up your tangle? It's up to you. You can cut it so that there is an extra piece for yourself, or not. Cut with straight lines, curves, puzzle pieces... anything goes.

Here's where the "IN FULL COLOR" part comes in: when you send your pieces out to your partners for them to tangle, list UP TO three colors that you want them to use in their tangling. Originally I was thinking that you would give each partner the same three colors (for example: blue, magenta and purple) but I suppose you could give each partner a different set of colors - that might be cool! So, the color selection is totally up to you!

Some ideas for coloring your zentangle would be to watercolor the background and then tangle in black. Or, leave the background white, tangle in black, and then fill in the empty spots with color. Or, do the tangles in colors.... just stick to the colors that your partner wants you to use!

If you'd like your tangle to have a border, please mark this somehow, maybe by x-ing out the border areas with pencil. That way your partner knows not to tangle there. This is how @dobie256 did hers (in the swap photo).

A tip after two rounds of this swap - put your name, address (can just be an address label), and color choices on the back of each of your pieces before mailing them out. Your partner will thank you!

Dates will be as follows:
Signup deadline: Sunday, Sept. 30th

Deadline to send out stringed pieces: Saturday, Oct. 13th (please click "sent" after sending this step)

Deadline to send completed zentangled pieces back to their owners: Saturday, Nov. 10th

You will rate your partners AFTER you receive your completed pieces back.

Please let me know if there are questions!

I will adjust the number of partners accordingly when I assign them - but I'm just going to leave it at "1" until then.

If we only have 3 people participating in this swap it's going to be kind of strange - if you don't do a piece of your own zentangle you will be cutting your string into only 2 pieces.... I'm thinking we need to have a minimum of 5 people participate for me to actually assign partners. Does anyone have a differing opinion?

Also a question - if we go ahead and do the swap, does anyone mind if I make my string a zendala?

Sorry I didn't see this question before.

The way it stands now we could cut our design into 6 pieces and each of the three partners could do two. I wouldn't mind that (and I might cut mine into eight pieces and do two for myself -- that is what I did on my last composite zen).

And you doing a zendala for yourself is fine by me.

I also discussed with Laura hosting this in the spring. I suppose we could wait until then. Maybe we would have more members with more time and then hopefully more interest. This is such an awesome swap -- I'm bummed there wasn't more interest in it.

zendala is fine with me.. and please don't cancel.. this is very doable with 4 participants..I am still eager to participate :)

So.... with 4 people playing we each get 3 partners. I think I'll make mine 8x10 (to fit in a frame) and then cut it into 4 pieces (one for each partner and then one for me to do). And like @dobie256 suggested, you can cut yours into DOUBLE the number and send your partners 2 pieces each - so they would get 2 small pieces instead of one large piece. Totally up to you - let me know if you have any questions - thanks for joining!

Cool! Thanks for hosting Laura. I think this will work wonderfully. I will be sending two small pieces to each of my partners.

Ok - so something isn't working with the addresses and the number of partners. Can everyone send each other their names and addresses, please? Will that work?
