Details:

What to Swap

You'll be swapping a Scrap Vomit Square Pack. The pack contains 49 x 2.5" squares of material. This is enough Scrap Vomit Squares to create one Block A. (Obviously, you can use the squares you receive any way you like.) This is a scrap quilt so there's no expectation that the squares will be fussy cut. You just have to make a 2.5" square of a single material - please don't use selvage or sew scraps together to make a square. It would be great if you could swap 49 different fabrics in your Scrap Vomit Square Pack, however if you can't do this I ask that you try to include as many different fabrics as possible it will help people to have unique and one of a kind quilts.

Give unto Others

It should go without saying, but just so we're clear: only swap material that you would be happy to receive and use in a quilt yourself. This means swapping quilting quality material (preferably cotton). Using a mix of pattern that you think is both pretty and vomitty. (Obviously this one is a little subjective, so again if you'd be happy to use it swap it - if in doubt probably best to either contact the person you're swapping with to see if they'd like it or maybe keep it for yourself (and you're next scrap quilt!).)

Communication is Key

I understand that life sometimes throws you a curve ball and means that you can't always do what you would like, so if for any reason you have to pull out of the swap just drop me (and if you're so inclined) your partners an email to let me know and we'll work around it. The more warning you can give the better so that I can redirect packages, etc.

Time is Money

Please post your squares to your swap partner by the postage date specified. If you're anything like me just knowing that something is coming in the mail is uber exciting, so it would be great if all our packages arrive around the same time so that we can all celebrate together.

Quilt Karma

Ultimately a swap like this is only as good as what you put in to it so please remember to treat everyone as you would expect to be treated. Chances are if you shaft someone today, you'll be shafted tomorrow.

Maybe I am overly excited about this but my packets are ready to go including some surprises! Can't wait. Barbara

roccagal 01/ 5/2013 #

Me too I signed up yesterday evening and this morning I did the cutting and made the baggies!

gnomeangel 01/ 5/2013 #

Hello Everyone! Thank you so much for signing up! I can't wait to swap. I've had an inquiry that I would like to put out there for everyone to discuss: "How many different fabrics would you like in your packs?" As stated above I would love for everyone to swap 49 different fabrics, but I understand that not everyone has a stash to support this, so I would love to know what people think is a reasonable amount of variance in their swap packs. Thanks in advance!

Barbandcleo 01/ 7/2013 #

I really enjoyed receiving 49 different fabrics last time. That is why I signed up and want to do it again. Having said that it would be too bad if someone were excluded because they are a new quilter or who for other reasons at this time does not have access to a stash. I will participate either way but prefer the greatest variety.

Koshka2 01/ 8/2013 #

I enjoyed it last time too so am looking forward to another round. Thanks for organising, Angela. I know what a busy girl you are!

elsa 01/ 9/2013 #

Just signed up ~ I'll get my packs ready to go today!

How often am I required to check in to Swap Bot and how will I know who my partners are?

Looking forward to sending and receiving ~ the last swap I joined was fun! elsa

fayeray99 01/ 9/2013 #

I have a question about the type of fabric. Would snuggle flannel squares be allowed as well. I am thinking of participating but I am not sure I have the stash for 49 different fabrics unless I can include my snuggle flannel. Let me know. Thanks!

Koshka2 01/ 9/2013 #

Personally I wouldn't want snuggle flannel but would be OK with doubles of cotton fabrics.

amdewitt 01/ 9/2013 #

Not sure what snuggle flannel is...but...would want only 100% quilters cotton. I would say no more that 3 duplicates in the batch. You could always throw the 3 dupes in the next swap pile. Also, in some fabrics one, 2 1/2" square would be totally different that another one cut from the same fabric. For example a floral print may have a mixture of flowers that you could get a different looking square from another section. Just a couple ideas.

sweetpeamarie2003 01/ 9/2013 #

I love the scrap vomit swaps. Personally, I would like 49 different fabrics but take what I get. I just throw the duplicates into another square along with squares with my stash or use them in the alternate blocks. Thanks Angie for hosting this swap again.

Nicole2 01/10/2013 #

I too am loathe to exclude people with limited fabric stashes but it's really unfortunate to get duplicate fabrics. Let's say I get five overseas people: that will cost me ~22.50$ to mail those five envelopes. If I get duplicate fabrics in return - that really sucks (it happened to me last time) and it makes me leery about signing up again.

fayeray99 01/10/2013 #

Thanks for answering my question. I probably wont be joining in since I don't have 49 different fabrics to switch (unless I go buy some this weekend). I don't really want to disappoint my partners when they get their package since it is clear a lot of people are looking forward to getting all different fabrics. Maybe in the future I can join in. Good luck with the swap and have fun sewing.

Angrypolak 01/11/2013 #

Can't wait! I will be cutting tomorrow since I am not working most of the day! Yay for scraps!

katara 01/11/2013 #

Perhaps someone could host another swap that requires say sending out 40 squares consisting of 5 different fabrics (8x5) That way newbies could build up a stash, to later participate in this swap?

MamaMay 01/11/2013 #

I actually suggest that newbies try something like joining one of the 10 inch swaps I host. They are groups swaps though so not as many people join them. It would give you a good mix of random fabrics for the next swap.

MamaMay 01/11/2013 #

Oh and the group nuts for sewing has strip swap of 2.5 fabric. So half the cutting is don't for you!

elsa 01/11/2013 #

I meant to add this to what I wrote a few days ago.

In the last swap I got a lot of squares that weren't 2 1/2" ~ either smaller or larger ~ so be sure to check your inches before you cut!

elsa

MamaMay 01/11/2013 #

Wow, I would be pissed over too small, too large is acceptable a they would still be useable. Did you rate accordingly?

elsa 01/13/2013 #

I didn't ~ didn't know they were too small until I got them out to use.

MamaMay 01/14/2013 #

Well, if you know who it was, you can always write them a pm telling them and asking if they want to fix it. If not then rate down.

elsa 01/14/2013 #

I've got my cutting done! Now for my people ~ ready to ship!

plumpatchwork 01/14/2013 #

I cut 14 packets over the weekend so I'm ready to go! Once the names are drawn, if anybody who isn't sending to me would like to swap, I'd be delighted to do a private swap!

roccagal 01/14/2013 #

If we are not paired up here I will happily swap with you, plumpatchwork !

Koshka2 01/15/2013 #

All five sets cut and ready to go!

artsymimi 01/17/2013 #

I have 24 different fabrics can i send 2 squares of each? I would love to join but i dont have 49 different fabrics ?

gnomeangel 01/17/2013 #

Hi Everyone - Couple of answers before the swap is allocated.

Please only swap QUILTING COTTON - unless you contact your swap partner and they're happy to receive other materials.

If you think your cutting might be a little off (and I know mine is) maybe consider cutting 3" squares. (Just a thought...)

My suggestion for variance of fabric squares - more is better. If you have less than 50% I'd probably wait and swap again when you have more scraps. (There's some great suggestions above for ways to increase your scraps through swapping. If you can't find a swap for you, you could always host your own - it's easy to do!) Again, if in doubt talk to your swap partners once they've been allocated.

I really love how excited and committed everyone is - you rock my world! If you have any more questions please feel free to email me.

:)

kbare 01/18/2013 #

I have a die-cutter and plenty of stash that needs decluttering. If anyone would like to do a private swap. (I'll send you die cut squares, you can send me anything off my profile). Or I can die-cut your fabric for you. (You send me your fabric, a return envelope, and something from my profile, I'll send your fabric back die-cut into squares.) For my swap partners - see my profile, if you'd like to send me something besides 2.5 in squares, that's ok with me. I don't really need any 2.5 inch squares - I'm mostly joining this swap to send them out! Happy Swapping!

brandiscardina 01/18/2013 #

Just wanting to get it clear, 49 squares to each of your five partners right? I'm getting ready to cut now! :)

mascanlon 01/18/2013 #

Hi! Totally unclear to me if I got signed up or not...I think the number of participants was 49 before I signed up and thats what it is still reading. Hope I have made the deadline, I am so excited about Scrap Vomit and looking forward to swapping.

MamaMay 01/18/2013 #

If you join you will have a rectangle in the upper right hand corner that says stuff like "veiw participants", "move to watchlist" and "drop swap"

Angrypolak 01/19/2013 #

it says there is 50 of us, when will we know who our swap partners are?

gnomeangel 01/19/2013 #

PARTNERS HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED!

Have fun - if you need anything, please let me know. :)

elsa 01/19/2013 #

Got my partners ~ sending out on Monday!!!

roccagal 01/19/2013 #

I made up my little parcels and will send out Monday!!!

roccagal 01/21/2013 #

as promised my parcels went out this morning Jan 21st!

elsa 01/22/2013 #

I said I'd be sending on Monday ~ we had a holiday here in the States, Martin Luther King day, so I couldn't send out. Now I'm gathering up some little presents to put in with the swap ~ so it will be a couple of days before I can send. elsa

mascanlon 01/22/2013 #

I had hoped to get my packages off today but life got it in the way. I am happy to be working the next 5 days at the Road to CA quilt show so I can't get bundles off to my 5 partners until Monday or Tuesday next week but that is still several days ahead of the January 31 deadline, just don't want folks to worry!

mascanlon 01/22/2013 #

And who knows I may find some exceptionally cool fabric at the show to include!

elsa 01/23/2013 #

Got my packages sent off! So glad to have them in the mail and excited for my partners to get them! Included some little treats! Love giving and getting ~ the mailman is such a treat!

LittleRed 01/27/2013 #

I will patiently wait for the next round...as I think I finally have enough variety to swap:)

BunnyMama 01/28/2013 #

Hi everyone! I've got a little problem here. I needed to post one of my scrap packs to Canada and others to UK and USA, so sent my husband to the Post Office with all of that. no problem with UK and USA, but he couldn't send to Canada as he was told that the adress should be written differently. I've been searching the internet and could not find any tips on how to do that. May be someone here could help? I'm posting from UK.

roccagal 01/28/2013 #

I am from Canada and the address should be written as follows;

Jane Doe 123 Deer Road City, Province M6L 1N3 Canada

roccagal 01/28/2013 #

The I tried to set it up for you but it reformatted! name on line1; street address on line 2; city, province and postal code on line 3 and on bottom Canada. Hope this helps!

BunnyMama 01/29/2013 #

Thanks, Roccagal! Been to the Post Office myself today and they said it's all OK with the way I've written the adress. :)

mascanlon 01/30/2013 #

Have sent off my packages today. Little concerned about one of the addresses. It is going to camelcaravan in the UK and the postal code looks odd. I have emailed her to confirm but didn't want to wait too long so off it went...fingers crossed!

yolandagypsy 01/31/2013 #

All packed up and ready to post - love this swap, so please repeat it x

BunnyMama 02/ 8/2013 #

Thanks to all the lovely girls who send their squares to me! Still waiting for a pack from Camelcaravan (hope it's just some delay with the post office). I'm not going to make a blanket with my squares, but I will make a scottie dog for my son's room (http://dsquilts.com/fabricandpatterns.asp?PageID=187&ImageID=500) and some cussion sovers for our living room. What are you all planning to make with your squares? Have you allready started?

amyinuk 02/14/2013 #

Hello - still waiting for two parcels. I have contacted both the swappers to let them know. Anyone else waiting for parcels to arrive?? Post is so slow!

Barbandcleo 02/21/2013 #

I received my last package this week. Post was really slow to Canada - Canada Post has implemented new, more efficient processes so we no longer get mail every day and it takes longer!

Love my packs it is fun to see what everyone has in their stash. Happy to do some one-on-one exchanges.
