Description:

Journey to My World is a world building exercise. The intent is to learn about the world, or time, you are writing about. This can be for all genres not just sci-fi/ fantasy! Here is what you need: Tell your partners about the setting(s) of your story. FIRST- give a brief synopsis of your story to give the reader a bit of context. Include what genre you are writing in. SECOND- Time and place. This is the whole world. Is it Earth? Set in the 17th century? Is it a spaceship 200 years into the future? A planet or dimension you have created? Give details like seasons, weather, vegetation, etc. THIRD- social structure surrounding the characters. Etiquette, religions, superstitions, jobs, etc. FOURTH- Choose at least 2 inner places in your story to detail. For example a courtroom, throne room, bridge of a spaceship, or a temple. If you can draw a picture or find one in a magazine, by all means please send it! But you do not have to. FIFTH- How do these environments affect your main character(s)? How much do you describe your world in your story? Do you focus on it a lot or is it a watercolor with blurred details in the background? OPTIONAL- For those that have created a whole world, if you would like to include a map, it would be an interesting touch :-)

Since this is sender based, you can start as soon as you would like, though I am giving a month to write and send. This can be a very involved swap and if you're like me, you will have to force yourself to narrow down what all to send and describe! lol But I hope you all enjoy this swap and that it helps you see your world in a new light.

The only problem I have with this swap is that I'm not sure which of my worlds to choose! I'm leaning toward a contemporary one because I really need to keep my mind on that "world" but it's not as much fun as some of my others. Maybe I'll do two and see which one turns out better :-)

That sounds good! Or you could send one to one partner and the other to the second partner.. Or if you have ink and paper.. Send both to both! :-D

I wasn't going to join but then I started writing a short story and was like... ack, I need to build this world before I can write this... oh wasn't there a swap? :p So this is actually helping! I'm on page 4 ;)

Yay!!

I finished the first one (5 pages with maps). I'm thinking of doing another one for a story I just thought up a few days ago and haven't started writing yet. I'll give it a go and see what comes out.

well I spent 4.5 pages describing the world and story... I haven't actually WRITTEN the story yet so my location descriptions can't be very detailed :p Hope it's an interesting read for my partners anyway :)
