Description:

This is the first round of what will be an 8 round series. The inspiration comes from Natty Malik's In the Sun 2011 art journal free class. http://2011.inthesunclass.com/

I AM POSTING THIS EARLY TO GET AS MANY PEOPLE SIGNED ON AS POSSIBLE AND TO GIVE YOU TIME TO TRACK DOWN THE PERFECT JOURNAL AND DECORATE YOUR COVER!!!!

Each week there will be up to 4 prompts. You will pick 2 and create at least a one page layout for each theme. Find/Buy a bound art sketch book, a Smashbook or make your own with assorted papers and bind yourself. It's to your liking. Pages need to be at least 4x6. I found some cute 4x6 smash type books at Joanne's that would be a perfect format for this swap. This would be the perfect swap for using a small book!!!!

This swap is different from most all swaps on Swap-bot because you get to keep YOUR WORK in YOUR BOOK. You will take a photo of what you create and email the photos to your 4 partners. This is a Type 3 swap because of the amount of actual work involved to create the pages, though you will not be physically mailing anything.

PROMPTS FOR SERIES #1: (pick two)

INTRODUCTION TO SUMMER (your interpretation)

SUMMER SELF PORTRAIT (what do you look like at the beginning of summer?? or ask yourself "What does the summer ME look like as opposed to the Winter, or Spring me?))

I WANT MY SUMMER TO BE.......

IDEAL VACATION SPOTS......

I LOVE these!!! You have such great ideas soyprincesa! You should create a group were we do these, we already have a group pretty much anyway! :)

soyprincesa2 02/17/2013 #

That is a cool idea! The only reason I haven't is because we have had people join us on the way who may not have known about us if we were in our own private forum.

How many entries is this going to be? I was thinking of making a paper bag book for this but want to know how many pages I will need. Thanks!

soyprincesa2 02/22/2013 #

A@BobbiG there will be 8 rounds with 2 layouts per round. So you need a minimum of 16 pages.

soyprincesa2 - are the ones at joanns the amy tangerine day books?

Aumonae 03/10/2013 #

If you make a group, please invite me because I would FOR SURE join! I love these swaps as well.... makes sure that I actually am journaling :)

soyprincesa2 03/10/2013 #

@bluecrayons yes I think so. They are so cool!

I've never done a smashbook before, but I'm joining because I don't have to send anything out. Postage prices have increased greatly... :'

Anyway, there's only 2 seasons in my country: the dry season and the rainy season. The middle of the year, so it's sort of the same as summer, right..?

aipoopyhead 03/23/2013 #

I meant to say the middle of the year is the dry season.. :/

I would love to join if there is a group too. I have just recently found out about smashing and junking and I can't wait to get started! I think for this one I am going to make my own book. Anyway, having a group would help keep me on track, I think.

Hello, I'm commenting here (hopefully you don't view this as spammy) because I'm trying to get a group of Swap-botters together for The Sketchbook Project 2014. People who participate will receive a 5" x 7" book to fill out and return to the Brooklyn Art Library. Then the books go on a multi-city tour in the U.S. of your choice (also Canada for a couple tours)... though anyone worldwide can participate! At the end of the tour the books become part of the permanent collection at the Brooklyn Art Library. I'm trying to organize a group to do this because I think it'd be fun to share my work and see what other people are doing, we could encourage/motivate each other, provide help and feedback if need be and there is also a group discount. Please see my forum post for more details, thanks! http://www.swap-bot.com/forums/topic/106157

It's winter (supposed to be, soon, hopefully) here..!

secretterrabite 04/25/2013 #

I'd like to join the group if you set one up, what a great idea. I've found the Amy Tangerine daybooks in the UK at http://www.sarahscardsltd.com/ if anyone is interested.

I am excited to begin filling another book! Again, I am using one that has been sent to me, only this time it's a junk journal, not a smashbook. It's filled with junk papers, envelopes, subscription cards, maps, pages from old planners, post cards, paper bags, etc. All kinds of sizes and surfaces to work with! It will be a challenge, but after doing the first one, I know I can do it!!!! Thanks, soyprincesa2, for doing another series! Will we have another flickr page this time?

When are you going to post #2? I'm anxious to get started on that one :)
