AQ – Button blocks #1

3-11-13 thru 3-30-13

I love buttons. How about you?

I was thinking a sampler quilt where the main theme is spot lighting and showing off buttons.

In this series of quilt blocks we will be making 8 ½”X 8 ½” blocks that accent or show-off BUTTONS. The blocks and buttons can be in any pattern or color or print senders care to make. Please be sure that fabric and buttons are washable.

Here is an excuse to dig in your stash of buttons and be inspired to create a quilt block that shows them off. Maybe that collection of pretty red buttons you’ve been saving for just the right project would look great as centers on bowtie blocks. How about a checkerboard of black and white fabric with a different color button centered in each block?

Always send things you would be happy to receive.

These blocks can be collected and made into one large quilt or used individually or in smaller groups as mini art quilts. What you do with the blocks you receive is up to you.

Please keep in mind that buttons blocks are not always the best choice on quilts for small children due to the risk of choking.

Summary:

--one partner

Recipients may suggest colors they’d like to receive but that decision is ultimately up to the sender.

Thank you @junemoon for your beautiful button quilt picture I've used on our swap!

I am thinking we may need to be more specific on the design of the button block so folks will know better what to send. The quilt picture is just a reference of quilt decorated with buttons. You don't have to send plain squares with buttons on them. Think 9 patch with a pretty or unusual button in the center of each square. Or maybe an Ohio star block with buttons at the points.
