Description:

Dia de Los Muertos celebrated on November 1 and 2 is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and around the world and in many cultures.

The celebration takes place on November 1 and 2, in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day. Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and visiting graves with these as gifts. They also leave possessions of the deceased

This swap is for anything Day of the Dead. If you would like some ideas on what you can send your partner here are a few:

  • Vigil Candles (the large ones with Saints on them)

  • Sugar Skulls (Anything, fabrics, postcards)

  • Silk Marigolds

  • Anything that one may use on an altar

  • Toys to leave on the graves of children

  • Skeletons (Anything jewelry, anything goes)

  • Rosaries (if your partner is religious, don't forget to check their profile)

Send anything you wish!! If you would like to see an amazing site where you can find things if you would like to celebrate and never have you can see a wonderful site here

How many items do we need to send???

singsweetly 07/11/2013 #

Can you be more specific on how much to send?

SillyPie 07/11/2013 #

@Nandin no limit but at least 2 or 3 things :)

SillyPie 07/11/2013 #

@singsweetly I'm not sure how to list a price because it really is anything goes and depending on where you live tells how much stuff is. So it's kind of impossible to really put a quote. Where I live? Vigil Candles with Saints on them are $5. Where my friend lives? They are $1.

I guess I can say 'Don't spend over $25?

I am so excited it's not true :D

Unmutual 07/19/2013 #

So excited I've already started ^_^

I'm making a shrine for my three cats, so I'd love any cat themed items (skeleton cats, saints associated with animals or plain candles).

Please no rosaries.

mxgrrlblu 07/30/2013 #

I love rosaries if they are handmade...and if they come with something else so I say go ahead... <3

I like pretty much anything except for silk flowers. Just a few things I do like a lot though include: rosaries, statues, picture frames, draperies, sugar skulls of any kind and candles! I can't wait to start gathering items! This is such a brilliant idea! ^.^

I'm excited about this swap & agree great idea. Although I'm not religious I don't mind rosaries and always welcome white or red vigil candles - my husband uses them daily.

SillyPie 08/21/2013 #

I'll list my stuff here. I love everything: Rosaries, Statues, Saints, Sugar Skulls, I've been looking for a Candle of St Gabriel the Archangel ;), skeletons, everything :)

SillyPie 08/21/2013 #

Also since I know I'm not the only one setting up an altar this year. Share yours when the time comes :)

Unmutual 08/22/2013 #

Anything is welcome for me :)

Hello you guys, can't wait to complete this swap, it's such a great idea. Just a hint for my partner: I'm not a religious person, so I'd prefer things that contribute to the atmosphere of the day, not so much things that actually depict something religious. It's fun to discover a tradition of a foreign country!
