Description:

For this swap we will be illustrating a phrase with found words.

Choose a phrase or short quote and cut each word of that phrase/quote from magazines, newspapers, books, etc. Get as many different forms of the words as you need to fill your collage base, then set to work making a random collage using just those words. Multiples of the same word are a great way to fill up space and using different sources will help create interest (varying fonts, colors, etc).

The collage in the swap graphic used the phrase "one day at a time". Short quotes & phrases are easiest to work with. Please use a sturdy base for your collage and make it at least 4"x6" in size. You may send your collage naked as a postcard or in an envelope if you prefer.

Thanks...I had a little help from Pinterest though. That's where I found the image :)

I love this idea, but I'm stumped about where to find multiple instances of the words I need...anyone else puzzled about that, too?Is there any chance we could print out the words, large size of course, in different fonts and colors?

...and then cut them out and make a collage? (is what I mean)

I suppose you could print them - though the whole point of the project is to use found words, so I'd rather everyone aim for using only words they find in already printed materials. Maybe find as many of the words as you can, and only print what you are short on? Or just pick an easier phrase? Easier doesn't mean it'll be any less interesting. I've been thinking along the lines of song titles, lyrics and article headlines - short and sweet phrases. Not settled on anything yet, just looking through magazines and letting the words find me.

You can cobble together/adjust words if you need to for a bit of a cheat as well. If you need "light" but are having better luck finding "right" just switch out the "r" - at least all the elements of the word are still found.

Also, not all words have to be repeats. Take the phrase, "get more out of life". Your collage can be made up of repeats of the "get more out of" part with one big "LIFE" standing out.
