NOTICE OF CHANGE!!

I found the hard way that the Anvil block doesn't work (using all my red fabrics in the process!)--the quarters are different, so I changed the second block to Annie's Choice, which does work.

There are so many, many beautiful quilt blocks out there, especially online, complete with instructions and tutorials, I want to do them all!~ That's pretty unreasonable, however, so I thought about categories of types of blocks and looked into those made up of four squares only, would be a good place to start.

This is the first of a series of swaps for four-part blocks. They will all be 12.5" unfinished blocks, and will start with fairly simple patterns, leading into more complicated and paper pieced ones later.

I'm going to see how it goes with two different blocks per month.

We will each have three partners to whom we will send one of the four blocks of each pattern.

Since the parts are interchangeable, it doesn't matter which one goes where.

These will definitely be scrappy blocks in the end, since each one we receive will be in different fabrics, but I'll list a colorway for each block, so they'll be at least similar in color.

You don't ave to participate in every swap, but it will be a great chance to try new blocks and techniques, and feel free to step in anytime you want, even if you don't start in the beginning.

Following the instructions given, make up the four parts of the blocks and send each of three to your three partners, so everyone will receive 6 different parts of two blocks, and adding your saved ones, you can assemble the complete blocks.

Background colors should be cream or white, the main color for each is listed after each block links. Other secondary colors are senders' choice.

The first block will be Home Treasures from Marcia Hohn at the Quilterscache.com click the link for the instructions. Color: Blues

The second block will be Annie's Choice on the same site

Colors: Reds

Since it's a group swap, I'm assuming no one will flake, but if you have life jump up and get in your way, please contact your partners and me for help.

Any questions or suggestions, please PM me.

are we doing a fourth of a block or the whole block

twobluecrows 01/29/2014 #

@kygirl1 we're doing the four parts of each of the two blocks listed. As if we were making the whole block, but stopping before we assemble the four parts into one.

Three of the parts of each block you will send out to your three partners (two different block parts to each of your partners)--each of us will be keeping one part of both blocks, so that when we receive the two pieces sent to us by each of our three partners, they will combine into one full block of each pattern (two whole blocks)

I hope that makes sense!

Please confirm that I have this correct - we make one block of the home treasures. Send three horizontal rows to three partners. Then we do one block of the anvil pattern and send three horizontal rows to the same three partners. When we receive from our partners, we will have the missing horizontal rows to complete one of each block. Right?

Here is an image of the step in assembly so that you can see how it's divided. The normal assembly may be to make horizontal strips of the small squares, but only assemble two at a time (one square + one triangle square then another pair to make the square quarter)

I'm sorry if anyone already started The Anvil.

This is the sort of quilt we can make with a whole bunch of these different blocks!

Here is what you get when you sew all your little blocks together wrong:

This is what you get when you try to sew when you're real tired and have already taken them apart and sewn them back together twice:

LOL--fortunately for me, I got three right!! I'll fix mine later.

Love Annie's block but unfortunately did it in wrong color hue! Oh well, good practice block.
