Description:

I just received my first pocket letter! I found out about it through Instagram and I thought it would be a fun project for the group.

A pocket letter basically consists of a 9-pocket plastic sheet (for storing baseball cards, etc), where each pocket is filled with something unique. When filled, fold the pocket letter in thirds, pop it into an envie and send!

The theme for this round is: ALL ABOUT ME

The tutorial below shows the inventor of pocket letters explaining her concept and how it works:

Go to Pinterest and search for pocket letters to see lots of fun examples.

There are 9 pockets to be filled--all about you!

If you love collecting washi tape, why not send a sample? Do you love tea? How about sending a bag of your favorite tea? Are you a paper lover (as is everyone in the group)? How about some paper backgrounds for ATC's? Are birds one of your favorite things? Why not send a bird tag? Used postage stamps, air mail goodies--anything goes. You get the idea . . . In ONE of the pockets please write a little note explaining why you sent the items you chose to send. Be creative!

Since our group is based around a love of paper, lean towards including mostly paper items in the pockets.

If you choose to decorate the pockets, don't overdo it--make certain you can see the goodie inside. Decorating the front and back plastic part of the pockets is NOT a requirement.

This is NOT meant to be a $$$ swap. . . don't run out and buy things to put in the 9 pockets--you'll already have the things you love!

Any questions? Please pm me or leave a comment here.

I am so glad you are hosting this! I saw this idea somewhere (can't remember where!) and thought it would be a fun thing to do!

I received one from a friend, but really didn't understand it until I read this swap. I can't wait to try it.

Oh so glad you're hosting this! I just found out about this. I'm going to be making some for my long time art buddies for their birthdays in the next few months!

I'm so glad everyone is excited! Typically I learn about something once it has reached its peak and is on the way out! I'm very excited too and plan to host these with different themes throughout the year. Everyone have fun.

Watching until I can go buy some pocket pages .. but how cute are these!?!

I just learned about these last week as well when someone in the Wishlist group asked for one and I had to go Google for it. I thought it sounded very fun, and it is! I just made my first one to practice on a friend, and have been making some birthday themed ones instead of sending the standard bday card. My only issue with it is getting overwhelmed by how much paper stuff I own and what to choose from the mountain of it, haha. Thanks for the swap with parameters/theme, it makes it easier to narrow down the contents. Weeee!

Sounds like a GREAT idea... I hope you do this again in the near future. Right now I can't do to much I broke and fractured my wrist 3/1 had surgery 3/6 now I have a plate and 3 screws in my wrist. As soon as I can I will be back to make things again.

Wishes for a speedy recovery @cardgal15 . . . I will plan to run these with different themes--maybe one per month? With holidays and seasons there will be plenty of available themes.

@crescendo . . . I know I will have the same issues with deciding what to send. My craft room is sort of like a space shuttle--I pick my way through to my chair and am completely surrounded ;+)

So glad everyone likes the idea!

If you like group swaps and maybe like me I just put a group up called 9 little pockets for USA. Join both, I did!

If anyone is having an issue finding pockets, I bought a set of 10 @ Office Max for $3.99. They also had a package of 25 for $6.99. You can also get them on ebay.

Darn I missed this by 1 day. When you be doing another one?

grammag 03/25/2015 #

I had never heard of these until this swap! It's going to be so much fun. And as for my craft room, my son-in-law went in there a couple of days ago to get something and when he came back he said it looked like a craft store threw up in there! lol

Hobby Lobby has a 40 pack of pocket pages for 7.99. With the 40% off coupon, it's about $4.80. They're by the coin collecting stuff.
