Description:
Make your partner a striped postcard just like the one above (all covered in horizontal strips) using ONLY washi tape on a paper background. Your washi tape itself does NOT have to be striped. Your PC must be on a sturdy base. You may use another PC --- one that you don't like and will never send to anyone --- as your base if you wish, as long as the original image does not show through. One way to do this is to cover the PC with a sheet of neutral coloured card stock and then do your washi tape stripes on top of that. This PC should be sent stamped and naked (not in an envelope). If you wish, you may secure the front of your PC with packing tape, mod podge, lamination, etc. to protect it in transit. On the back, include a note to your partner about ONE of the following, interpreted any way you like: Something paper related Something Japanese related Something mail related Something stripes related Don't forget to include the swap name and your SB moniker so your partner can rate you. Thank you for the newbie-friendly swap! Just a quick question. Do you recommend getting the PC laminated? I'm just wondering how the washi will hold up in the mail? Thanks

@cjcassell , I have received many envelopes and small parcels decorated with washi tape and they all seem to do just fine in the mail, even from overseas.

I personally usually laminate my handmade PCs simply because I do not want to chance a "travel accident" and disappoint my partner. But there are some swappers who prefer handmade PCs NOT be laminated in any way.

Bottom line? If you are not sure (check your partner's profile first to see if they address this - most do not), ask your partner if they have a preference. If they do not, thenI would err on the side of caution and laminate.

What do the other experienced swappers here think?

I ran a zigzag stitch with my sewing machine around the edges of the postcard to keep some of those pesky edges (that want to pop up) down, plus I love any reason to sew on paper. I still might go over the whole thing with a light layer of mod podge.

In a washi group I am in, it is possible though tricky to use an iron to active washi tape glue to make it stick very well but any deco/dollar store/glitter tape would be ill-advised to use this method. Also, you need to cover the top with parchment paper/brown paper bag...

Partners have been assigned. It is a real shame I had to drop 9 swappers with good ratings from this swap because they did not follow the swap requirements to have colour info on their profile and/or log onto SB as of March 27.
