Description:

When I first joined swap-bot a few years ago one of my FAVORITE things to make were button fairies. At that time there were loads of swaps for them but I haven't seen any in awhile.

So . . . let's create a button fairy together! There are loads of tutorials on pinterest and google; I'm not linking one here because every tutorial seemed to be a bit "narrow" -- not much allowance for creative license.

Here are the basics:

You'll need:

  • 1 piece of wire--between 10" and 15" (between 20 and 26 gauge)\

  • an assortment of buttons

  • a pair of wings

  • a head or a torso

And here's what to do with your supplies:

  • String your buttons onto the middle of the wire in a pleasing arrangement, overlapping each button slightly Roll up the bottom end of the wire into a spiral (you may or may not hang a charm on the bottom). Another style is to NOT overlap your buttons and instead tie bits of fiber along the wire between the buttons. Make your choice: overlap buttons or buttons just touching,

  • glue your wings onto the back of the torso or head you have chosen, tuck this piece (completed wing/head) just UNDER the top button, and affix the wire to the back of this piece. Please cover the wire on the back with pretty paper.

  • create a loop for hanging with the wire left at the top of your fairy. Or, if you prefer, create a loop below the top edge of your fairy and string a ribbon through that loop for hanging. This way only the ribbon will show.

  • embellish to your heart's content! You can add glitter, a crown, bling, feathers, tulle -- anything you choose.

Your button fairy should measure at least 7" long and her wingspan should be at least 4" wide. No giant or teeny tiny fairies please ;+)

That's it! Easy peasy paper craft . . . hope you'll join in the fairy fun!

I have a Button Fairy Pinterest board for some inspiration here.

I've never made one of these before, but they look super pretty! I hope mine turns out okay!
