Description:

August 26 is National Dog Day.

National Dog Day celebrates all breeds, pure and mixed and serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues and pure breed rescues. National Dog Day honors family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort. Dogs put their lives on the line every day - for their law enforcement partner, for their blind companion, for the disabled, for our freedom and safety by detecting bombs and drugs and pulling victims of tragedy from wreckage.

For this swap, you will create a craft item to honor dogs for your partner. This is a chance to use your crafting with a purpose. You can create a tote bag, stuffed dog, note cards, dog toys, journal, wood craft, or any other craft you are good at. Please note this is not to be a purely digital project of an ATC. Please put time and talent into your project.

Be sure to list any dogs that are important to you on your profile to inspire your partner although the item does not have to be profile based. You are welcome to start creating now.

This is a USA only swap, but if there is enough interest, you can either steal this for INT or i would be happy to host an INT version.

**Swap picture is my adorable duo of Zippo the boxer and Samson the hound/Great Pyrenees mix.

ChrisAnne, would fabrics be a suitable medium for this swap?

I have a standard poodle named Annie and a poodlish named Katie.

I have a 9 month old miniature schnauzer, named Sadie, for my hubby's grandmother---I do hope she sees that as a gesture of love--to have a DOG named for her! She is a fireball of energy and uses every ounce possible to fetch balls sent far away at the dog park at our apartment complex. We have to take her early in the a.m. only as even then here in Houston the heat index is around 90 F because of the humidity here in Houston..

@Shannonlinde YES! I am creating with fabric myself. Sorry for the delay in answering.

Also, my favorite of all dogs in the German Shepherd; we had one for 12 wonderful years until her hips went out---a problem typical to shepherds. She was about 4 months old when we adopted her from a German Shepherd Rescue group. The breeder put four little females in a box and left them in a wooded area because he did not like their markings! Thankfully, a neighbor came across them not long after they'd been left there, and he got them to the rescue league. One of them became our beloved Bailey. Her ashes are still in a wooden box in my art room. I don't know what I want to do with them. So my favorites are German Shepherd or Miniature Schnauzers. .
