Description:

International Women's Day is March 8. While thinking about what we can do to continue to advocate for health, safety, a clean environment, clean drinking water, educational access and economic and employment opportunities for women around the world ... why not make a few knitted or crocheted goddesses to inspire others?

Here are a few ideas -- a few of them are even free patterns!

Simple free crochet goddess amigurumi; more free crochet goddess amigurumi; free crochet doll patterns to adapt for use as goddesses; free crochet pocket Venus of Willendorf pattern; Goddess Kali amigurumi pattern for $5; Pregnant goddess crochet pattern for $4; Venus of Willendorf crochet goddess pattern for $4.50; Another $5 crocheted goddess pattern; Sadness from Inside Out -- an emotion, but she's a feminine hero for sure; now the knitted ones: Knitted Minoan Bee Goddess -- pattern link not working?; Simple knitted goddess for embellishment -- free pattern; Knitted goddess pattern for $5 -- very popular with a lot of images out there of personalized versions; free knitted doll patterns to base a goddess on ..; free Venus of Willendorf mini doll knitting pattern; goddess that looks a bit mittenlike?; Simply knit doll that could be adapted as a goddess. There are a number of free simple doll patterns out there.

Here's the swap -- one goddess doll for one partner, with a little wish or thought about International Women's Day and what your personal priorities for women around the world might be. I will angel all swaps. Thanks for taking some time to reflect on the role of women in the world :)

Image is of a goddess doll from the most popular knitting pattern that I could find ($5, Greenwoman Studio on Ravelry) listed above.

I found a needle felted doll base, for those of you who prefer to felt a goddess :)

What a great swap idea! So it can be felted? What is the size requirement? I'm thinking necklace or pin size..... especially since it's international. Is that too small?

I think so, since there are needle felting fans in the group. How about no minimum size requirement, and if you want to send a bigger size but go flattish due to international shipping concerns, ok to send unstuffed ? If smaller, you can focus more on decorative detail, too, which might be fun. I am definitely accepting suggestions.
