Description:

I have decided it would be really fun and exciting to do a craft challenge where we all use the same core materials to make our partners a hand crafted item.

The core materials will be:

  • 4 fat eighths
  • 2 buttons
  • 1 piece of ribbon or trim no larger than half a yard

(these are maximums - you may use less fabric but please include 4 fabrics).

Everyone MUST use these 3 things in some way in the project. The materials that you are allowed to add are thread, interfacing, stuffing or other generic sewing supplies.

What do you make??? ANYTHING you decide that meets the specs. It can be a bag, purse, toy, doll, journal cover, anything under the sun! Use your imagination and see what you can come up with.

It would be great if you could adapt your creating to your partners likes in color etc. And we should make an effort to have photos uploaded for as all to see what people have come up with.

Only people with ratings greater than 4.5 or genuine newbies please and this is an international swap so overseas postage may apply.

This will be so much fun!

(Please note: Definition of Fat Eighth: One-eighth yard of fabric that is usually cut to measure 9" x 22" rather than the typical one-eighth yard cut of 4.5" x 42".)

I'm guessing a fat eighth is half the size of a fat quarter?

user4914 03/10/2007 #

Sorry guys, it is common language to me but yes, a fat eighth is half of a fat quarter Definition: One-eighth yard of fabric that is usually cut to measure 9" x 22" rather than the typical one-eighth yard cut of 4.5" x 42".

If I could sew, I would join this swap in a heartbeat. Challenges like this are awesome.

TerryF 03/13/2007 #

I would love to join but already have too many swaps to do for mid-April...

msteacher 03/20/2007 #

I would not mind joining but I do not have a digital camera. It is a pain to take a pix, develop then scan so I will pass.

What a cool swap. I'd love to join!

Cindy, Photos are not compulsory - it was more of an expression saying MUST than an actual rule - I just really want to see what people come up with! =)

I have just uploaded a photo of my item I will be sending tomorrow! I won't reveal who it is going to to save the surprise but "Hooty" will be starting his journey from Down Under to the US tomorrow - so he may take a week or so in transit. Hope the new owner loves him =) Cant wait to see what others are making/getting - dont forget to share some photos!!
