Description:

I was rummaging through my archived swaps from years ago and found this one. Folks seemed to enjoy it then, so I thought I'd host it again. :)

Here's what you'll do:

  • Start with a medium to large sized note card, used or new. It can be blank inside or have a greeting.
  • Tape 2 sides of the card closed (please use a sturdy clear tape for this (packing tape would probably be best). These 2 sides, along with the natural fold, will leave one side open. It will either be the top or the bottom depending on the card orientation). This creates the pocket.
  • Into the pocket put some papery items from your stash (stickers, pretty papers, recipes, punch-outs or die-cuts, stamped images/sayings, decorative tape samples, a note card, ribbon pieces, etc.). It's always nice to check your partner's profile to see what you have that they might enjoy.
  • Also add a little note with your name/swap-id for easy rating.
  • Aim for making it a little puffy (one to two stamps worth), although if you get it too puffy, some post offices will want to call it a package and charge you $3 or so.
  • Tape the pocket closed. This sealed card pocket will be sent naked (no envelope) through the mail. (Note: As some tapes aren't quite as strong as others, please wrap a strip or two of clear packing tape "north/south, and east/west" around the pocket to reinforce it for mailing - we don't want anything falling out of the pocket during transit! You could also put your sealed pocket into a see-through plastic envelope if you would like.) See comments below about important information on postage stamps.
  • Address one side of the envelope, adding a label if necessary.
  • Add appropriate postage and mail it off to your partner to brighten their day.
  • Have fun stuffing the pocket. :)

I remember when I started these card pocket swaps...they were fun. I also put a staple on the open sides of the card and flatten the staple using a s pair of plyers.

What fun, Beth! I'm watching until I see if I have plenty of goodies. May I add that some post offices are fussy about the postage being on the outside of the plastic? I've covered a stamp with clear tape only to have it rejected for "lack of postage"!

TereDiane, good points. If you choose to send your pocket in a see-through plastic envelope, you will need to apply the postage to the outside. Also, remember not to put any clear tape over your postage stamps. (I'm sure they think they've already been used or something).

A stamp under plastic cannot be cancelled. I learned by rejection also not to put tape over stamps. Also, if the pocket turns out square, it takes extra postage, so I will not be square!

Yes, the stamps must be out in the open and have nothing over them. In fact, we also must be careful not to overlap the edges of our stamps either.
