Description:

Bookish.com has an email newsletter that includes a 'book bingo' sheet for each month. I thought some of their challenges could be good for swaps.

Rather than being required to read enough books to get a "bingo" on the card, the monthly challenge will be to read just ONE book on the card, then, to finish out the rest of the row for your 'bingo', list a suggestion for those books. Include the title and author, but you don't need to include anything else.

You can find the link HERE The site has other challenges and such as well, if you're looking for those.

On a notecard or in a letter (typed or handwritten, either is fine - but NO postcards), list the title and author of the book you chose to read for January. List which category you chose from, and include a brief description of the book - either one you write, or use the blurb on the back cover, Good Reads, Amazon, etc.

Then, list titles and authors of books for the rest of the line to get your Bingo!

For example, I may choose "Title begins with Y", and I could choose "You" by Caroline Kepnes. Then I would need to list titles of books for "Chinese or Chinese American author", "Heart of cover", "Three word title" and "explores #BlackLivesMatter movement" for a horizontal bingo on the bottom row. If you are doing several challenges for swaps or for yourself (like I am!), hopefully you can find a book that meets this challenge as well as others, so you won't be 'required' to read multiple books in a month. I don't want to make swaps feel like chores. :)

Does that make sense?

The other books you list do not have to be books you have personally read. Some of these categories are a bit tough! :) Just give it your best shot.

So, a recap. You will have 1 partner and send that partner a note card or letter with the title and author of the book you chose from the bingo categories, along with a brief description. Then, you will list the title and author of books for the remaining 4 categories for your bingo. February is a short month, so I'll give you a few extra days into March to finish up the swap and mail out. As soon as I can find the March Bingo, I'll post the swap. :)

This swap will be International, as it will be lightweight to send. The letter or note card should be written in English, but you may, of course, read a book in any language you choose.

If you have any questions, please send me a PM. I'm lousy at checking the comments section. :(

If you think of or find books for these categories, please feel free to list the titles below in the comments! I'll admit, this is going to be a HARD challenge for me. I hate romancy type books, and the books listed on the Bookish page for suggestions of these categories either don't appeal to me, or I've already read them! SO, feel free to help each other out. :)

If you are watching and thinking about joining, I would appreciate a comment below Thanks!

I know the picture is hard to read. You can find the bingo card through the link above, or here:

The web page with the bingo card does also list some suggestions for books for the different categories, if you need some ideas. :)

OK. I'm not completely sure I understand what we're doing, but I'm in.

If we're not reading 4-5 books, just one, right. And what happens with the list of other books? Are we just supposed to identify titles that fit the description or actually buy/get the book?

@Artistic - yes, you are only required to read one book, then list the titles and authors of other books that fit the categories to make a 'bingo'. If you want to, or are able to, and wish to read the books to make the bingo, please feel free to do so, and share that in the swap! But I wanted to amend this to make it easier to achieve for group members who have other obligations, or cannot read 4-5 books in a month. :)

Books you list can either be books you've read that fit into the category, books you have heard about that would fit, books that are in your TBR .... They can be recommendations or suggestions. I tend to reflect on books that I've read, and wish to recommend, in a fashion.

I'd love to get to the point where I could actually read 4-5 new books in a month to make a bingo, but right now, I don't think I could. :( I read or listen to a lot of books on a monthly basis, but not necessarily something that fits into categories.

I hope that answers your question and helps clear things up. :)
