Description:

One of the "witchy" activities in the book, "A Hedgewitch Book of Days", is to create a "witchy" map of your neighbouhood. What's a witchy map? It's a map that annotates places of power, interest, contentment - any place in your neighbourhood or community or town or even city that draws you in from a spiritual perspective. It could be an Oak grove in a park, a community garden, a river or stream or brook, a beach, public art, or any combination of these things!

For this swap you'll have one partner to whom you send a witchy map of your area of choice (you can keep it local, to within a few blocks of your home, or extend it to an entire metro area, state, province, etc.). Include a handwritten letter that describes the areas you've marked on your map, and why or what about them draws you in.

The map may be created by hand drawing it, digitally rendering it, OR by marking areas on a pre-printed map of the area. Be creative and really feel into your community and what's so special about it to you spiritually!

The letter should be a minimum of two sheets (front and back) of letterset sized stationery or 1 sheet (front and back) of A4/8.5x11 paper. If you're using plain paper, please doll it up a bit with stickers, stamps, or washi - but the focus should really be the content of your letter.

In a Nutshell

  • 1 Witchy Map, depicting no less than a two block radius of your home area, with a minimum of 2 areas that call you in spiritually marked on the map. Maps may be hand drawn, digitally rendered, or annotated over a pre-printed map of the area of your choice. Include a legend on the map as well (e.g., a tree could indicate a special tree or stand of trees; 3 wavy lines can indicate a river, stream, or brook; a simple house can indicate a special home, haunted or historical for instance; an oval could represent ponds or lakes...you get the picture!)

  • 1, handwritten letter to 1 partner that discusses the the areas you marked, what draws you to them, and why.

  • The letter should be on stationery or decorated paper, and be a minimum of 2 sheets (front and back) of letterset or 1 sheet (front and back) of A4/8.5x11.

The Administrivia

  • Ensure that your name, username, and the swap name are included in the letter.

  • Send on time. Rate promptly upon receipt. Sending late without communication warrants a 3 rating and removal from the group. Not rating or having to be chased for a rating also warrants removal from the group. Communicate and rate.

  • Rate according to the Swap-Bot Rating Criteria. Failure to rate your partner or to rate correctly will result in your removal from this group.

  • If you are going to be late sending, make sure you let your partner and me know prior to the send-by date.

  • Hearts are purely at the discretion of the rater.

  • If you flake, you will be removed immediately from this group.

  • If you are flaked on, let me know. I will angel this swap after you rate a 1.

What an interesting swap idea!

Are we allowed to type our letters as long as they meet the required length? I sometimes have trouble writing because of arthritis in my hands.

@PrettyAlice - The swap requirement is to hand write the letter; however, check with your partner to see if they're ok with you typing if you're medically unable to write.
