Type:None
Last day to signup/drop:April 17, 2007
Date items must be sent by:May 1, 2007
Number of swap partners:2
Description:

Swap cards are calling cards or gift tags that you include with every swap you send.

They help your partner ID what swap they are receiving and from whom. If you've participated in a bunch of similar swaps at once (like the recipe swaps), you know sometimes it's hard to keep track of who sent what for which swap! Swap cards really help clear things up.

In this swap, you'll have 2 partners and will send each of them 10 swap cards. They can be any size or medium, but should include:

  • Partner's first name
  • Partner's Swap-bot ID
  • Spaces for writing the swap name and date
  • Graphic, photo, or other decorative element

HINTS/SUGGESTIONS: * Check your partners' profiles to see what sort of embellishments might make them smile. * I make my swap cards on thin cardstock, like business cards or postcards, but use your judgment about what works best with your medium. * Swap cards are not limited to paper, but your partners must be able to write on them, to fill in the swap name and date. * Swap cards can be single sided or double sided. * You can make them by hand, or use your computer. * If printing on your computer, 300 dpi or higher provides good image quality. * Double-check the spelling of your partners' names and IDs. :-)

International swap, everyone welcome, but I will check for "bad swappers" before partners are assigned.

Neat idea I love it! Panj

Ok, ok, you've sucked me in!!

PostMuse 04/12/2007 #

What do you all think about putting partners' mailing address at bottom of card? What about a line like "I enjoyed putting this together and would love to know it arrived"? Too demanding?

mediatinker 04/12/2007 #

Personally, I hand write any additional notes on the swap cards as I send my swaps out. I'm not sure I'd want anything other than the basics on my swap cards, but to each his own! If we are partnered, PostMuse, I'll be sure to include the extra line. :-)

PostMuse 04/13/2007 #

I will leave it at basics for the 20 I make. I've been working on some ideas, but want to wait until I see profiles before finalizing the design.

I still think this is a really great swap, but I think that about too many swaps lol! So, I am going to bow out. Sorry about that. I am just trimming my swap list a little and didn't want to give the impression that it's because I dislike this swap idea (or because of the mix of swappers).

Good luck everybody!

Sharon

what a wonderful idea - I remember receiving swaps and having NO idea who they came from - and these really will help remind us to include them in our swaps - I mean, they are just SO cute, we will WANT to use them!

thanks mediatinker, for hosting it - I'm in. MaryB

Thank you Gram's button box for the generous and very clever swap cards! They are beautiful.

mediatinker 04/24/2007 #

I'm so happy to see that cards are already arriving. I hope everyone gets cards they love and I wish to someday see one in use in a swap I receive!

Making the ones I sent was great fun - I think I like them better than the ones I normally use and I might even change my swap cards to incorporate the technique I did for my partners.

PostMuse 04/26/2007 #

I had a bit of performance anxiety while making the cards to send to my partners. But, I finally found two ideas that work for me, and I hope they both enjoy the cards. What I came up with is simple, but the other ideas I had would have made for rather heavy swap cards. I got to thinking.... this is silly... don't add postal weight!

Gram's button box used an ingenious idea for this swap... she recycled greeting cards, cut very neatly around the designs to make for very interesting shapes with the swapper info on the back. Very clever.

FunToScrap 04/26/2007 #

PLEASE post pictures. I have never seen swap card.

Thank you!

mediatinker 04/26/2007 #

It took me some time, too, to come up with a design I thought my partners would like. But when I did finally find my muse, I was happy with the results.

Recycling greeting cards is a great idea. And you know what, as fundamental as it is to use irregular shapes, I'm not sure I'd think of that myself. I love how everyone adds their own style to such a simple project.

joanandemma 04/27/2007 #

I hit the "Sent" indicator but the cards will actually go out tomorrow APr 28. sorry 'bout that.

PostMuse 04/27/2007 #

Aerochick, your cards arrived today. They are great - thanks so much!

mediatinker 05/ 1/2007 #

Just a few more hours to the send-by deadline. Nearly everyone has sent already, but there are a few partners (all great swappers) who are holding out 'til the last minute. Hope everyone sends on time and avoids the automated reminders from swap-bot.

RobinT 05/ 3/2007 #

Yooper,

The cards you made are awesome! They arrived today! Thank you so much!

joanandemma 05/ 4/2007 #

Robin T - what amazing swap cards! You did cards for both Emma and I - Emma is over the moon! (I'm right next to her). What wonderful presentation in the little bags, thank you so much! I learn so much everytime I get a swap, and will have to use more imagination for my own swaps in future.

Joan

RobinT 05/ 7/2007 #

Joan and Emma,

I"m so glad that you liked the cards! The little bags were inspired by my daughter. She loves things in little bags and suggested that I put my limited sewing skills to work. I won't tell you how many times she laughed at me when I started um...'sewing' without thread in the machine's needle! I really have limited skills and most of the time need a keeper when the machine is out and I'm trying to use it.

All the best! Robin
