Description:

In our favourite Era, the start of the day, for ladies, was often spent making morning calls, or alternatively, when friends were received. The purpose of an "at home" was for ladies to spend a little time visiting with friends and neighbours to chat for a bit and keep up to date. Usually these visits were no more than fifteen minutes and several friends were visited in the space of a morning. When a lady wasn't out and about making her calls she hosted an at home and received her friends to chat over a cup of tea.

For our swap, you will "visit" via the post in the form of a pretty letter to your partner, one embellished in a delicate way, that is a joy for our partner to receive. Include a tea bag with your swap to simulate a morning call. This letter should be at least a filled notecard or one page of stationery and not written on memo pads or list paper. Make your letter personal to your partner and as pretty to look at as it is to read; something you would be delighted to receive. For hints on letter writing, our blog has a post to help you. Make your letter interesting and a glimpse into your world. Please be mindful of your partner's preferences for tea and also allergies. This is meant to be a light-hearted chat so that we can get to know one another better.

To recap, we will write a beautiful letter to our partner, decorating the paper and envelope in a pleasing way. The letter should be at least one regular, stationery sized paper approximately 5” x 9”, or a notecard that is written on both sides of the inside of the card and should be a personal missive to our partner. For this swap we do not have to write in character, but instead to get to know our fellow Georgettes we will write as ourselves. Talk about your character or why you love our era, among other pleasantries. Replies are up to the receiver, but are not required.
