Description:

Dear Ladies,

Anticipation of the boat race Mr. Penn is hosting on May 31st, is growing. It is the talk of all the local villages and proves to be a fun day for all. There are all manner of wagers amongst the men and the race will most assuredly be well attended. The boats, one owned by Mr. Penn and the other by the Fullertons, horse breeders whose estate is across the river, each have a team of eight rowers and the race shall stretch from Belle’s Bridge to Carson’s Mill.

Let us add to the excitement by making a rosette to show which team we support. Mr. Penn’s team, whose boat is Faro’s Revenge, is represented with a pink rosette and the Fullerton’s team, whose boat is The Seahorse, is represented with a blue rosette. A rosette, also known as a cockade, is a pretty round flower design usually made of ribbon. Rosettes were used for all manner of things from awards, to political statements and even as adornments to one’s bonnet. There are tutorials here and here to show you how to create your rosette.

We shall have one partner for this swap. Size and colour (pink or blue) of the rosette is up to the sender. Write a note to accompany your rosette in the voice of your character, telling of your plans for the day, perhaps you will be picnicking. There will be a blog post from Mr. Penn inviting one and all to attend, to get you in the mood for the race.

NOTE: It's been suggested a paper rosette may be easier to send through the post. You may use paper to make your rosette if you are so inclined.

As always, we are here to answer any queries you may have.
