Once again, there have been published stirrings about “privatization” of our national postal service (USPS). Let’s make our voices known to oppose this … This is a two-part swap! First Part:Find out who your three elected officials are and how to contact them. Their physical addresses in D.C., government email & office phone numbers can all be found online — and all three of your elected officials will also have office addresses and office telephone numbers within the state where you live. They all have staff in these offices that open their mail and answer their phone calls and emails. (Government lesson: All US citizens are constituents — we each have 1 representative for our area and 2 senators that represent our state. All 3 of these elected officials represent your interests at the national level, regardless of political party!) Next, get in touch with your congressman or congresswoman/their staff & have a conversation, or write a letter or email to let them know how much you personally enjoy using USPS. You might even suggest that it’s a service you rely upon, not meant to be a profit center or make money for the government, etc. Ask for their assurances that they’ll protect USPS from being taken private. Second Part:After you’ve contacted your representative, write a note to your partner, telling them who you contacted and how the communication went — did your representative get back to you? Did they suggest anything else you could do? Did they pledge to represent your interests regarding keeping the USPS? Write about anything else you’d like, too! Any questions, please post below or contact me |
