Description:

What's worse than getting flaked on? Getting a crappy swap! I'm talking about where you spend a lot of time and energy (and perhaps even money) on a swap only to get crap in return. Maybe you spent hours creating a beautiful journal; adding fun prompts, original artwork or collages and packaged it with a few extras your partner might like. In return, you get some flimsy dollar store journal with a couple of stickers slapped on the cover, and only a few written entries with tons of spelling errors etc. Maybe you signed up for a flat rate box fill and crammed it full of goodies and in return received a box only half filled with crap.

You get the idea.... these swaps have left me jaded and less welling to sign up for swaps in fear of getting crap in return. This swap is for people who are tired of getting crappy swaps and would like to send and receive something nice (for a change).

Here's the skinny:

  1. You'll read up on your partner...get to know them a bit
  2. You'll send them a super nice card (store bought or handmade) with something positive. Tell them about your day, a funny story whatever you think is happy and fun.
  3. You will also include a small homemade profile gift(s). This can be in any medium, but must be worth around $5. The point is to take your time and really make your partner something that will help make up for all the crappy swaps they've been getting. Use your specialty (whatever it may be) to make their gift (Example: dotees, mini scrapbook, knitted item etc). Please keep your partner in mind. If they're into sparkly pink unicorns, A gothic altered journal might not be the way to go.
  4. Make your package look nice. Decorate the box or wrap your handmade item. You get the idea
  • DON'T cheap out on this swap and re-gift something so you can get out of buying/making your partner a gift

  • DON'T send your partner a long bitchy letter about how much you've been flaked on or about your crappy swaps (we're trying to make up for that stuff remember?)

  • I WILL BE CHECKING PROFILES not only for ratings, but reading feedback too!

  • If you can't handle possible international shipping DON'T SIGN UP! Remember that flat rate boxes can be shipped internationally cheaper than standard mail.

  • I really want this to run smoothly so if you have any questions please let me know :)

Way to turn a touchy subject into a more positive experience. I think we all have those stories, but it will be great if something more positive can come from something so irritating. Good Job!

Ha ha! Thanks....yeah I'm hoping to keep it positive.

My specialty is painting, drawing and photography. How would that be a gift? or I mean to ask, is that okay for a gift...a painting?

Jananini You could sketch or paint some cards for her to use. When you get your partner, tell her your medium and ask her what she would like! That tends to work best in this type of situation.

Hi, I was wondering if it would be possible to get more time to send out the items as Some handmade items take more time.

Also, will you be pairing people in regards to their profiles. Cause I can't knit or crochet and it'd be sad for my partner if they love those things!

Vilandra: Swap-bot does not allow the host to chose swap partners, it's done at random. People who sign up for this swap know that's it's sender's choice and that the idea is to create something in your medium while catering to your partner's profile. People like getting things they don't know how to make or create. If your partner's craft of choice is knitting, and you do paper crafts, make her a set of nice greeting cards she can use. Or a mini album depicting knitting etc. As for the time, I think 3 weeks is plenty as this is a small project swap (around $5).
