Description:

Yay! Christmas!! \o/ Cold weather, hot chocolate, houses covered in lights and presents under the tree.. It's definitely an awesome month! (And I don't know about you..) But looking through my stocking was always one of my favorite parts of the holiday. I think it was the 'digging for hidden treasure' aspect of it. :3{huhu}

So I've created a swap to send our partner an awesomely stuffed Christmas stocking!!

.

You will send your partner 1 (regular/standard sized) Christmas stocking (handmade or store bought; traditional or non-traditional) stuffed with an assortment of cute, kawaii, fabulous things to make them ecstatic with happiness while digging through it.

And you will also include one handmade item made by you. Something you specialize in making? Something new you want to try out? The decision is up to you. ;)

.

Value of items inside the stocking should be around $10-15. But you're more than welcome to go over that if you want to really spoil your partner. =p

Need Ideas?

.

From the Group description: "Think - Colorful japanese styles, Hello Kitty, neon pink, bright, daring, kawaii, makeup, bracelets, necklaces, hair clips, bows, Tokyo, NYC, photography, cupcakes, sweets, even Jeffrey Star! sparkles, glitter, hearts, jewelry, Gloomy Bears, electro music, popsicles, ext!"

.

  • candy
  • sticker flakes or sticker sheets
  • deco tape
  • a christmas card
  • mix cd/tape of your favorite music (or xmas music)
  • memo pads
  • a small ornament for their tree
  • stationary
  • small blindboxes
  • postcards
  • cute pencils
  • erasers
  • sharpies or gel pens
  • stuffies or amigurumis
  • small rubber stamps
  • zipper pulls
  • jewelry (earrings, necklace, or a bracelet?)
  • mini zines
  • small toys
  • handmade things like stuffies, matchboxes, atc's

  • (anything small enough to fit inside a stocking; non-brand 'kawaii' is allowed)

NOTES

  • !!! please read !!! - This swap is international, so please be prepared for possibly expensive international shipping charges and long shipping times. If you receive an international partner, it would be appreciated if you could send as soon as possible so that you can ensure they get their package sometime before Christmas.

  • Because this is a big $ swap, you will need to have at least a 4.9 to participate in it and no 1's/"no-sends" for the last 6 months.

  • Also, due to the value of this swap, you will need to have completed 5 (package/craft/type 3) swaps and been rated for them by the sign-up deadline.

  • And pleaseeee have a well-filled out profile. The success of swaps like these depend on you having a filled out profile for your partner to get a better understanding of what you like.

  • Once you've been assigned your partner, please read over their profile so you can have an idea of what they'd like. And please don't send your partner leftovers you have piling away in a dark corner from old swaps (unless you know they'd love it.) Let's not give our fellow group members reason to regret joining this swap, okay? =)

  • Edit (10/25/09): Knowingly sending your partner something they dislike or are allergic to would not be meeting the swap requirements. That is, to say... if your partner doesn't like lacey stuff, it's not okay for you to send them doilies just because you think it's cute. And it's certainly not okay to send your partner candy/food/tea they're allergic to if they have that allergy mentioned in their profile.

  • No non-raters, please! And while I'm at it, flakers will not be tolerated as well. Flaking or non-rating in any of my swaps will get you banned from future swaps of mine (both public and group swaps).

In short: Send your partner a cute HG inspired stocking they'll love filled with a wide assortment of small stocking stuffers + 1 handmade item by you.

Non-brand kawaii is allowed for this swap.

Any other questions or suggestions, please send me a message or leave a comment here. :)

Uhhh! I love this swap idea! I'm going to make a christmas stocking since this isn't a tradition here in Germany, you get some but most of them are boring plain ones! I don't have one yet and I'd love to get a pink one if that's possible! Like the one in the picture for example!

Mesha 10/ 6/2009 #

We don't usually get christmas stockings in my country so I'll have to ponder about this one heh, wouldn't like to send something that's not as nice and neat as the usual :3

kateroar 10/ 6/2009 #

I already made my stocking (minus the fuzz at the top, I'll have to find some) and my hand is hurting! LOL.

pursehappygal 10/ 7/2009 #

Haha! I loved the stocking part of Christmas! My brother and I would always get heck for getting up early to grab them. I never saw them again until I married into my hubby's family where it's still a tradition for adults and kids.

robotlove 10/ 7/2009 #

Aww. My family still celebrates the stocking tradition even though we don't live at home anymore. Usually my brother and I go over to our parent's house to open presents and they have our stockings hung up there and filled with tiny gifts. =)

dreamrains 10/ 7/2009 #

This looks like a blast but i want to make sure i can afford international shipping before i can jump in!

robotlove 10/ 7/2009 #

(nods) Understandable, @dreamrains . That's why I gave a long sign-up time and a month to send this out. I thought it might give the participants more time to save up to ship it out.

Yeah... international shipping can be high sometimes.. so if you're unable to join, that's okay... But.. I do hope you'll be able to join us in this swap. :)

amytheist 10/ 7/2009 #

Stockings are not common here too ... though this sounds fun but am kinda hesitant, ill scour the malls first and find a cute stocking before jumping in!

secretterrabite 10/ 8/2009 #

I make mine with felt and fake fur around the top. If you get the material from markets, they work out about 50p/$1 each

robotlove 10/ 8/2009 #

Thanks for the suggestion of making felted stockings @secretterrabite ! The only thing I'd like to add to that is if anyone decides to make their stocking, to please make sure it's sturdy enough to hold something heavy in it.

That is, please make sure the stitching is strong and secure enough to hold whatever you put inside it. =x

kateroar 10/ 8/2009 #

@secretterrabite I tried finding some fake fur at my local Michael's but I didn't see any! :(

robotlove 10/ 8/2009 #

@kateroar Do you have a Jo-Ann's, Hobby Lobby or Hancock Fabrics in your area?

provadia 10/ 8/2009 #

I'm in! I just finished making mine! It's def pink leopard print felt! :D

OoOlalavee 10/ 8/2009 #

I wish I could join this.. sounds so fun! but i'm hesitating because of the international shipping >.< meeps.. I would love to do this one as a private swap with someone though in the US. ^___^

secretterrabite 10/ 9/2009 #

pink stockings are a great harajuku girls idea, how about with lime green fur top? LOL

provadia 10/ 9/2009 #

I'm using neon green ribbon as the bow on top! :D

provadia 10/ 9/2009 #

Vanda! If you'd like, I love to do one with you! :D

OoOlalavee 10/ 9/2009 #

omg really?! That would be awesome Rossi! <3

robotlove 10/ 9/2009 #

Hello everyone!

In an effort to make this swap more accessible to everyone, I am now opening up the stocking choices to whatever kind of stocking you want to send. So it can be a traditional red/white/black stocking or a super hot pink stocking. The choice is yours (ie. senders choice) the only thing that's really profile related is what goes inside the stocking.

I hope no one has a problem with this edit to the swap. I thought about making this decision after reading a few people say they would have trouble finding non-traditional stockings.

Of course, you are still more than welcome to make the stocking if you want to. I'm sure your partner would appreciate the extra effort if you did. :)

kateroar 10/10/2009 #

@robotlove Sorry I didn't post this before, but yes, there's a Hobby Lobby near my house. Where would I find it there?

robotlove 10/10/2009 #

@kateroar I've seen sheets of fake fur in the same aisle they sell the square sheets of felt. If not there, you would probably find it in the fabric section. I've also seen some in the section where they carry the bendy pipe cleaners and masks. =)

GothicVamperstein 10/15/2009 #

Christmas stockings aren't common in Norway either (part of the reason why I joined this swap).

The most common things in Norway when it comes to gifts are either Advent Calendars (mostly for the kids), and the tradition of having the things laying under the Christmas tree, wrapped. We also usually celebrate Christmas at Christmas Eve (with all the food and unwrapping of gifts), instead of December 25th.

thrifty 10/15/2009 #

Is this open to newbies? It is just up my street.

robotlove 10/15/2009 #

Sorry @thrifty . Due to the (final) high value of this swap, I can't open it to newbies. I hope you don't take that personally. =x

robotlove 10/17/2009 #

Hey everyone! With a week left to go until the swap starts, I thought it might be a good idea for everyone to list any allergies they have since there might be candy involved in this swap. So if you have any alllergies you'd like to mention, please list them in the comments below.

Thanks!

-

As for myself, I avoid anything with nuts in it (specifically.. almonds and pecans.. for allergy concerns..) =x

miyi 10/17/2009 #

Yikes after re-reading I realised I don't qualify for the swap! I'll definitely join next year! :P

starrycat 10/22/2009 #

I think I have it listed in my profile, but I'm allergic to pecans and walnuts....even though I love pecan rolls...lol...its so sad. All other kinds of nuts are ok, though. I don't do coconut though...lol. I am so looking forward to this swap, lol.

ILoVeCoWs 10/26/2009 #

On my profile is what i'm allergic to which is Gluten/Wheat.

robotlove 10/26/2009 #

Thank you for making note of that @babieblueeyes81 But in case your partner might not see this or in case they don't see it on your profile (it slipped my view when reading your profile), you should send your partner a message about it. :)

ILoVeCoWs 10/29/2009 #

ok thanks robotlove for the good idea
