Description:

This is the second in a series of swaps designed for anyone who is new to quilting. It follows my Quilted Fabric PC Swap which can be found at

http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/5371

While this swap is primarily for anyone who is pretty much a beginner, experienced quilters are also welcome!

For each of your 2 partners you will make one 12" square (finished size), 100% cotton, quilt block in any pattern of your choice. Please refer to your partners' profiles for their colour preferences.

There are a number of good patterns here for 12" blocks:

http://www.quilterscache.com/BlocksbySizeC.html

or you can google "easy+quilt+blocks" for lots more ideas.

If you want to make fall/winter holiday themed blocks, such as for Thanksgiving, Hallowe'en, Christmas, New Year, Hannukah, etc., please check your partner's profile first, or contact them, to make sure it is acceptable.

You will NOT add batting or backing or quilting. When you receive your blocks, you will be able to use them for whatever you like: cushion covers, front of a tote bag, padded table mat, or maybe even as the start of a little lap quilt for yourself!

The 3rd swap in this series, Quilted Fabric Wallhangings for Beginners, will follow this one.

The Rules:
1.You must have a fully completed profile (not just a few words).
2.You must have a rating of at least 4.6 with no one ratings in the last 6 months.
3. You must have at least 5 substantial, rated swaps (no electronic/cyber, letter, list, purchased PC, etc. swaps) by the sign-up date.

While I ban after sign up date and reserve the right to do so for any reason I see fit, please do let me know if you have any concerns with anyone who has joined.

If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section below so that everyone can benefit.

Happy quilting!

*EDIT Sept. 17 - I have changed the last date to signup/drop, from Oct. 4 TO Sept. 24.

Hi Terry,

First, thanks for having the quilting swaps! I've only recently gotten into quilting but I just LOVE it!!!

As of this moment, I don't have the ratings you require, but hopefully by the cut-off date, I should have. So, I hope it was OK for me to go ahead & sign up now -- and if for some reason, I don't have enough significant ratings by then, I totally understand if you have to drop me!

I hope that was OK! Thanks again!!! And, to everyone else, do be sure to check out the site Terry mentioned for block patterns (and lots more) Quilters Cache is an AMAZING site!

Hi FerretLady: I don't ban until after October 4, and there's still lots of time to get your ratings, so I am glad you signed up - you should be fine! T.

I received the following question:

When you say "12 inches finished", do you mean that it should be 12.5 inches when I send it, so that the quilter's block will be a 12-inch block, or that mine should be 12 inches, so that the quilter's block will be 11.5 inches?

My reply:

I meant 12" finished as you send it, not 12.5", because 12" is the size of blocks I have seen on most sites. But it really doesn't matter because I was not intending that this square necessarily be incorporated into a quilt. I had thought it could be used for something like on the front of a tote bag or as a small cushion cover so that the exact size really wouldn't matter. I would suggest that you check with your partner to see if they have a preference. I know I do not.

Hope this helps!

Please note that I have had to move the signup/drop date to Sept. 24. I have also emailed all current participants to advise of this.

ALL SWAPPERS: If you have not received your blocks by Dec. 5, please let me know. Thx! Terry

Terry, yours arrived just now. It's lovely! :) It'll work so well with the frogs you sent previously.

Some sort of stack and whack pattern? I might try and duplicate it for other blocks. I like the odd angles. :)

And the girls loved the extras!

TerryF 11/15/2007 #

SewFun, yes, I just cut a bunch of uneven strips, sewed them together, cut them up, rearranged them, and sewed them back together again. I really don't like making the pieced patchwork patterns because I cannot get those darned corners to match - they would have ended up looking just like the one I sent you anyway! lol
