Description:

One of the hardest parts of not acquiring more craft stuff is resisting the desire for new inspirations. Get inspired while continuing to work from what's on hand - just work from someone else's stash!

The Craft Leftovers swap allows you the chance to trade in some of your stash for someone else's! You don't gain "more" you just swap for some new inspiration!

Join me in my mission not just to destash, but to find wonderful uses for all our cast offs.

Swap Details:

:: While everyone is encouraged to participate, do not do so unless you know for sure you can send out your package on time. If you have swaps under your belt, your rating must be 4.5 stars or higher on average.

:: Each package must be at least 6x9" - cram it full, all you can fit.

marianeiti 07/ 6/2010 #

MeganMagnolia 07/ 6/2010 #

awesome swap idea! this will be so much fun!

is there a minimum size to the pieces we send (especially if it's fabric or ribbon)?

taledo 07/ 7/2010 #

Awesome I can get new stuff without spending money. COOL!

kikipurses 07/ 8/2010 #

I'm excited. I have about 4 mason jars filled with baubles and bits and several bags of fabric scraps and definitely collage and paper scraps!

23postcards 07/ 9/2010 #

So excited for my first swap!! Thank you for organizing it :)

KraftyKaren 07/ 9/2010 #

This sounds like such an awesome swap idea. :o)

Chelle 07/11/2010 #

Is it ok to send half used sheets of stickers? (But still good quality - just stuff like if its for kids, girls / boys but I only use the girls ones...)

craftasticjulie 07/13/2010 #

Maybe I just haven't looked hard enough but I can't seem to find the answers to two questions. Thanks for your time :-)

  1. Do we not get our swap partners until after the 7/20 deadline?

  2. Can we sign up for more than 1 slot? (I have found a TON of stuff I am ready to part with)

I second craftasticjulie's question...how do I find out who to mail goodies to? This is my first official swap :)

craftysmurfette 07/13/2010 #

Once the swap closes, the coordinator will trigger the system to generate the partners. It will send you an email when they are ready to be picked up. :)

KraftyKaren 07/13/2010 #

So, can I include some sheets of stationery, if it's on my partners profile that they like to receive it?

MamaLisaDesigns 07/13/2010 #

Can't wait for the partners to be assigned so I can check their profile and match up some great goodies for their envelope!!!! As for me...if it is in my profile, I'll take it!!!!!

sarachung 07/14/2010 #

This is really exciting for me, as this will be my first swap! Cannot wait :)

MysticBayou 07/14/2010 #

I am watching for now, will you be doing a U.S. version?

SFLisa 07/15/2010 #

I'm excited for this swap!

Mom2Alex2008 07/17/2010 #

^5 @ Mystic. I would do this if it was USA only. I cannot afford to send overseas with heavy stuff anymore. Although today I got 4 envies with stamps 2 were not cancelled! ONE of them was stamped that I owed 20 cents and no one asked for it! So, I got a 44 cent plus 20 cent profit!

SIGLES 07/17/2010 #

craftasticjulie i would love to have some of you leftovers

ThingsBright 07/19/2010 #

I look forward to this. :) It will be my first swap. Lots of goodies to share!

Here's some Q&A, sorry I didn't see these comments before now and thanks to the members who replied to answer quite a few. Love the swapbot community :) Swap partners will be assigned slightly after midnight tonight. Today is the last day to sign up.

Right now it's set up to only do 1 partner at a time. There will be another swap in October though :) And donating to local charities, schools, and art kid programs is always a good way to go if you have a lot of excess.

You can send any kind of "craft leftover" you think your partner will like. I think stationary and stickers fits into this. Check your partner's profile and if it seems like they would like it go for it.

Try to package things up nice too. Don't just send a mess of yarn, send a little bag of little balls of yarn and optionally, let them know what you used the yarn for and what it's fiber content is. I know I like that info :) Fabric, papers, stickers, yarn, crochet thread, vintage supplies, buttons, ribbon, fasteners, twine, beads - anything that's "crafty" works.

As far as size limits on materials, there isn't. But that being said, I think a lot of it has to do with presentation. If you are sending a bunch of ribbon trimmings, you could put them in a smaller envelope and label it "collage" and add other really small bits. Also you could include ideas what to use it for.

As far as US only, I'll have to think about it. Craft Leftovers has a lot of international readers and contributors and I really want to them to be able to join in the fun too. A 6x9" envelope doesn't go very far either and it shouldn't be more than a few dollars to send - unless you fill the whole thing with buttons :)

Okay, I think that's everyone's questions. If you have more, feel free to leave a comment and I'll be checking back a couple of times a day to respond. First time hosting, didn't think to check before :)

Hmm..my partner joined yesterday and has a completely empty profile..hope I don't get flaked on this one.

craftleftovers 07/22/2010 #

Well, that is one of the great things about this swap. New members can sign up for it because it's such a low investment - even if they do flake you are going to only be out a minimal amount for postage and some leftoverover craft supplies.

But on the up side, we are giving people the oppertunity to join swap bot for the first time and join in the fun. Everyone has to start somewhere with their first swap :)

For the next time I'm going to require that everyone has filled out profiles so it's easier to know what to send them. You can always send them a message to ask what kind of crafting they do if you want some guidance.

firelass 07/22/2010 #

My partner just signed up for SwapBot and has nothing in her profile...that makes me a little nervous. I'm sending her a message as you suggested craftleftovers...keeping m fingers crossed

ThingsBright 07/28/2010 #

I signed up for this and had to try lots of times to get my email confirmed. I'm not sure if I'm officially signed up or not and how I'd find my partner if I am? Thanks a bunch!

craftleftovers 07/30/2010 #

The swap should be listed in your dashboard as a swap you are active in. When you click on the July Craft Leftovers Swap, look to the top right corner, there will be a box with links and one will be "See your partners you send to", click on that and a pop up box will appear. If you were unable to confirm your email, you may need to email swapbot to get that sorted out. Send me a message if you need help with anything or have any questions.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I was on the RAGBRAI trail for a few days (cycling/camping across northern iowa).

Happy Swapping! Kristin
