Description:

I was inspired to create this swap when i read "13 little blue envelopes" by Maureen Johnson whilst on holiday a few weeks back (yea ok its a young teens book and im almost 24 but im just not ready to grow up yet!), you can find the book at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Little-Blue-Envelopes-Maureen-Johnson/dp/0060541431 should you be interested in my inspiration!

Basically; what I want you to do is send between 10 and 15 little envelopes (they dont actually have to be blue) INSIDE of a bigger envelope (so you're only sending ONE package to your partner). Inside each little envie i want you to set your partner a task and tell them why you choose that task.

Now i dont want them to be as huge as in the book, no sending your partner on a plane to London with no money or telling them to move in to a strangers spare room, etc. but something along the lines of "go to your local library, pick up the 1st book you see and read it cover to cover" or "volunteer for a day at your local animal rescue centre" but please make sure each task is unique, achievable, fun and interesting.

Each little envie should me numbered and you can only open the next one in sequence after you have completed the previous task.

Once you have completed all your tasks (or after each one if you wish) send an email to the person who send you the tasks telling them how you got on, and include some fotos taken during the task.

You can get creative with the package, make it pretty, paint, illustrate the letters and envies, etc. remember to number each envie in the order you want them opened and tell your partner why you chose each task.

This sounds like so much fun. Can't wait to see what I'm tasked... Maybe I can convince my husband to do them with me :)

Jacquisking 07/ 9/2010 #

lol thanks :) i was reading the book thinking how cool would it be to do all these cool things plus im the kind of person who wants to do something but then doesnt get around to it, so maybe if someone writes it in an envie and tells me to do it i will actually gain some new experiences. I put a long date on it so that people have a good chance to think of tasks to set their partners.

Thanks for joining and yes, get hubby involved!

madpoetics 07/ 9/2010 #

What a great swap idea!! I'm so excited to do this, and can't wait til August 10th. I won't write out most of my tasks until I know where the person lives, so I can find things and places near them to do! Can we make time move faster? LOL.

comfits 07/ 9/2010 #

I LOVE it!!! This is the most fun swap I've bumped into thus far. I, too, am wondering if we can speed up the dates...both of them?

Jacquisking 07/ 9/2010 #

hmm i can make them a little sooner, esp the sign up date but i have quite a few other swaps i still need complete before i can start on this one (5 by the end july) and a BIG one by beginning september. but i will make the sign up date end july now for sure.

comfits 07/ 9/2010 #

That works. I realized just because it says October for the send deadline doesn't mean we can't send sooner :]

Thank you for changing the signup date!

comfits 07/ 9/2010 #

PS...I think it'd be a grand idea if the senders created a way to keep the envelopes together since it's so many. I'd give my sender a heart for that ;]

PPS...I just checked the link. I am sooo gonna read this book now! Those young teen books can be really good!!!

twobluecrows 07/ 9/2010 #

You can make an envelope book to keep them all together:

imlilanglnot 07/ 9/2010 #

GREAT book... I'm watching this swap for sure!

comfits 07/10/2010 #

twobluecrows...cool! i like this idea verrry much! i even have a stash of hardcovers i made, but never got around to using.

you can also make an accordion-style book by licking the flap & sticking it to the next...if that makes sense?

daybright 07/10/2010 #

This is so awesome! I'm in! :)

Doodlebabe 07/10/2010 #

Loved the book when I read it! Love the swap idea!

Jacquisking 07/11/2010 #

Thanks for all your support guys. I love that idea twobluecrows. will check the instructions link laters. The book was really good, the whole time i was reading it I wanted to be having all the fun with them lol. and yeah @comfits you can send as soon as you have the partners assigned if you wish :)

chrissygee 07/12/2010 #

I'm getting started on this already! It'll take me awhile to gather all my ideas so hopefully they'll be doaround the end of the sign up date!

LesleyKnitsPretty 07/13/2010 #

This swap sounds like so much fun! I'm a little nervous! Take it easy on me, partner!! :) :)

ICNTECHNICOLOR 07/13/2010 #

Fun, fun, FUN! Great swap idea!

HouseOfHearts 07/17/2010 #

This is so much fun I want in. I just have a question on how long we have to finish all the tasks or it is just for our own fun?

Jacquisking 07/19/2010 #

@houseofhearts there is no time limit on when u have to do the tasks the only requirement is that you only open the next envie when u finished the previous. so u cant think "oh i cant do number 3 yet but im going to open number 4" you have to do number 3 before going on to 4, etc. Also you need to feedback to your partner that sent u the tasks about how the task went, what you enjoyed, learned, etc.

HouseOfHearts 07/19/2010 #

Great then I am in!

Bizabeth25 07/20/2010 #

I just got the book to read. I am still watching the Swap for now

Jacquisking 07/20/2010 #

thats great @houseofhearts welcome on board. enjoy the book @bizabeth25

AutumnRain 07/22/2010 #

Love this. What a great idea. Have my ideas all ready & am starting on my envelopes now. Hope my partner is up for the challenge.

50DaysOfSummer 07/23/2010 #

there is no special size the envelopes have to be? I have a few cute tiny one, but I am afraid my partner will think they are too small?! The idea is really great!

AutumnRain 07/23/2010 #

Do we rate after we have opened all the envelopes or based on the envelopes themselves?

Jacquisking 07/24/2010 #

Based on the package. If you are sent a package with 10 envies then thats met the requirements. If u then find the tasks heart worthy u can go back and add it! Ur not being rated on the task so much as long as u are sent the required amount tasks in envies and numbered. The envies can be any size, shape, colour as long as u can get ur task inside!

comfits 07/24/2010 #

50DaysOfSummer... I, personally, love tiny things :] And good news...they CAN be any size...yay!!!

Bizabeth25 07/25/2010 #

I am loving the book, but I am still trying to think what I could send my partner to do.... Maybe when I finish the book I will have a better idea....

vitaminD 07/30/2010 #

I vote heartily for the option of writing letters back to the partners about each task to complete & how it went. It sounds like a fabulous fun thing to do. I like it! Wooowheeee!

Maglet 07/30/2010 #

I'm thinking about keeping a journal as I go through the tasks and then sending it to my wonderful partner to enjoy.

Doodlebabe 07/30/2010 #

This swap should definitely be done again...and again! How fun to get little tasks throughout the year. Especially since everyone will think of at least a few different things than the partner before, if not the entire list being different!

denimblu14 07/30/2010 #

I have just come across this swap and am I committed to other swaps at the moment so I am unable to join. I do hope you will do this swap again, in the mean time I'm going to look for the book to read, it sounds like a fun read.

Jacquisking 07/31/2010 #

wow you guys are great, i didnt think people would be this excited about it haha.

its the sign up deadline today so i'll assign partners tomorrow morning. (ill try to remember this time lol) and if all goes well i'll be sure to host it again soon (once people have had a chance to get some their envies/tasks completed!) I like @maglets idea of keeping a journal to send to the partner about how your tasks went. though i think i'd like to hear after each one as well (i get inpatient haha)

Hope you all enjoy the swap and have come up with some nice little ideas of tasks to set your partner :)

Happy swapping

Jacqui

gypsyinthecastle 08/ 2/2010 #

Since the deadline to send the book is October 14, how long is recommended for the tasks to be completed and reported back to your partner?

The booklet instructions are cool...you could also put your book together and take it to a print shop for binding for about $3...it's a thought!

Jacquisking 08/ 4/2010 #

@gypsyinthecastle there isnt any deadline to do the tasks, just do them when u can. i would hope that people will put effort in to getting them done since they signed up for the sap.

i do like the booklet idea however its not a requirement that you attach your envies together.

LoloWalker 08/ 6/2010 #

this is such a great swap---after seeing how this goes, I want to make a set for each of my friends! LOVE this!! :)

Jacquisking 08/ 6/2010 #

thankyou @lolowalker

AutumnRain 08/25/2010 #

Sent mine out 8/3/10 & haven't heard anything back from my partner : ( My tracking # says she got them weeks ago.

Shanners 08/27/2010 #

I sent mine out 8/3/10 too and it's been almost a month and I haven't heard if they got mine either. Wish I had put a tracking number.

AutumnRain 08/31/2010 #

I used a tracking #. Was really wanting to hear what she thougt of the tasks I had for her. I hate when people don't respond or rate!
