Description:

I love making lists! So I thought of this neat idea...

You will make or buy a journal of at least 60 pages (more if you like) and decorate the front and back cover (colours/themes are your choice). You can collage, cover with scrapbook paper or wrapping paper, or perhaps you'd like to make a collage. If you prefer you can buy a nice decorative journal, as long as the cover is "nice" to look at.

Inside you will fill with lists. The lists are completely your choice, as long as it fills all 60 pages! 60 pages is the MINIMUM, but should be fairly easy to fill since we are all list addicts! Some examples of lists could include: - pets you have and their names - books you want to read, or have read so far this year - movies you dislike - funny bumper sticker sayings you've seen - province/state license plates you've seen since starting journal - street names in your area - things that are red - flowers in your garden - events you attended or will attend this year - to do list (can even tick them off as you do the tasks!) - songs that really annoy you - bands you've seen in concert

of course the above are just IDEAS you can come up with your own great list topics!

you can decorate the pages if you like, doodle on the edges, make it pretty or just write your lists and be done with it! Lets have fun!

Since this is a journal swap, and will take quite a bit of time, I will be checking all profiles before posting partners. Anyone iffy will be dropped. You should have a 4.8 (+) rating, and no recent no sends. Newbies who message me first will be allowed to join. Please make sure you have a filled out profile! This is international, so you if your partner is over seas you could be spending as much as $15 to SEND your journal. If you cannot handle this, please do not sign up. Or feel free to make your own version (message me first).

I recently did a journal swap that required decoration and there was some disagreement as to what decoration meant. Can you be more specific about the decoration? Thanks.

ifluctuate 07/16/2010 #

you can collage the cover with things you like, cut outs from magazines.... or you can cover them with scrapbook papers and put a title. You can use duct tape to cover them... maybe red duct tape, or blue? So pretty much as long as the covers are covered up with something, whether it be paper, paint, pictures, duct tape... or something else...

would like to do this swap ...but I am poor & would like to see the same in the US only... : (

savannahjan 07/17/2010 #

Ditto @1peeta

Obstminkerl 07/17/2010 #

Hi, what a great idea! How long should every list at least be?

Filpot 07/17/2010 #

Hello, love the idea but I have a question.

When you say "60 pages" can you define a "page". Does this mean 30 sheets of paper (which makes 60 pages when you write on each side) or 60 sheets of paper (which makes 120 pages when you write on each side)?

CaseyErin 07/17/2010 #

Ditto @1peeta and @savannahjan

AsAlwaysAngela 07/17/2010 #

Agree with 1peeta, savannahjan and CaseyErin! Would love to participate in a US version of this!

leilx 07/17/2010 #

I would also love to do this, but it isn't enough time for me. Maybe next time you'll give us busy people more time to do a project of this length! 60 pages of lists is a LOT of lists. I suppose this can be a small book, so the lists don't have to be long?

MommyKnows 07/17/2010 #

... just for clarification; do the decorations have to be something WE do to it or can we buy a journal that is decorated in some way? i.e. a bookboard cover that has graphics or stenciling etc.

savannahjan 07/17/2010 #

A month to do 60 lists seems like plenty of time. I mean, that's two lists a day. A to-do list and....a where you went list. Or a music you heard on the radio. Or words you heard and liked. I was happy to see it was a month.

user2637 07/18/2010 #

@ifluctuate - Thanks, you answered my question perfectly. Also, if it's okay with you, I'll host a US version for those interested. PM me with deets (i.e. can I? do you want me to do it after this one? etc).

@Filpot - "pages" usually means how many you write on. So 30 front and back or 60 one side, would be how I would read this. I'm sure ifluctuate will confirm. :)

SaintUrsula 07/18/2010 #

@leilx brings up a good point - is there a size range recommended for the journals? Obviously 60 pages in a 4x4 journal is going to be a lot less info than 60 pages in a 7x10 journal.

mmbrunet 07/20/2010 #

I found a journal that seems to be made for this swap! Not too many pages and tall with short lines! =)

xxpenguinscanflyxx 07/21/2010 #

I don't think a month seems too bad. I mean, if you think about it, we probably make more than 20 lists in our head alone in a week. At least, I know I do, but maybe I'm weird, lol. I bought the journal today. Just a composition book that I plan on decorating. I'm excited about this swap. I think that it will be fun. :)

secretterrabite 07/22/2010 #

To people asking for a US version because of postage, please bear in mind that in the UK the postage is 3 times higher than the USA. Every swap I do has a US partner and I have to always pay international postage. We are also left out of many swaps that are US only, you don't know what a fortunate situation you are in to usually only pay for local postage on an international swap, and every swap is open to you

lulubiz 07/23/2010 #

UK and Canada must have the same postage fees. ;)

ifluctuate 07/23/2010 #

OK I will edit the swap with details but here goes.

  1. Yes a decorative journal you buy at a nice store is fine, but not neccessary. A composition size notebook covered with wrapping paper or scrapbook paper to make it "nice" looking will suffice.

  2. I cannot make a USA only version, because I live in Canada. But I have given someone permission who messaged me to host a USA version, so I'm sure there will be one shortly.

  3. the size of the journal would be approx the size of a composition book, but with less pages (or the same if you want). 60 pages is the amount of pages you write on... so 30 front and back would be the absolute minimum... the maximum is up to you.

  4. A list should cover at least one page. If you want to make it longer that's fine. If it's a short list you could write really big to make it one page =) or just decorate the rest of the page or the borders.

i love this idea, and am glad to be able to join. i have old magazines, and i think this is a wonderful way to use some photos from them. i'm even asking friends for ideas for my lists.

ccomrie23 07/26/2010 #

I have a question. Are we filling out the lists ourselves and sending to our partner? Or are we filling out topics so our partner can journal in them?

Goldfoxxe 07/26/2010 #

For some reason, it is not letting me message you, but I would really love to join. I am a newbie, but I promise I will not let you down on this, I love snail mail : ) I have a lot of free time and I would really like to fill it making a journal for someone. The potential of overseas mailing is not a problem for me at all, I am used to it! I really hope to be able to do this! Thank you, Goldfoxxe

MommyKnows 07/26/2010 #

Wooo hooo!! ...made the top 10 swaps!!

ifluctuate 07/26/2010 #

ccomrie23 - you are making actual lists, not just topics. i was listing some ideas of topics you could write your lists about, but the topics are up to you, what you include in your lists is up to you. Might be nice to make it somewhat interesting for your partner to read though.

ifluctuate 07/26/2010 #

ok I have gone through the list of people signed up so far, and have banned 2 people. Hopefully i don't have to ban anymore... but looks like we have a good group of swappers signed up! =)

Goldfoxxe 07/27/2010 #

Bummer, I did not make it before midnight. However, thank you ifluctuate for considering me anyways, I will look forward to other swaps from you : )

xxpenguinscanflyxx 07/28/2010 #

So, we are list addicts, but we're also human, which means we might get writer's..err...lister's?....block. I came across a really interesting site today that I thought I would pass along to anyone who might need a little inspiration.

http://www.listography.com/

You can post your own lists here, or you can search others' lists. There is a really good variety here, so if you find yourself racking your brain for a list, I hope this place helps you out some. :)
