Description:

We all know the legend, and if you don't...just leave the group. LOL Just kidding, I think.

Anyways...for this swap you will alter a FAKE doll (obviously female) in any and all ways Jack the Ripper may have. You can use actual victim information or do the damage yourself. You also have to make a death certificate for the victim and send her in some type of casket. The casket can be as simple as a cereal box cut to fit the remains of the Miss in question, or whatever. If she comes in a few parts, you may consider placing her in a small baggie if you'd like.

This may be obvious, but please don't use anyone's real blood. There are some things that would even disgust me.

I believe the majority of the people in this group are from the US, but I know a few are from the UK. Please consider that you may get them as a partner you send to, but look at what's better--they might be the partner you receive from :) It shouldn't be too heavy especially if you choose your casket wisely.

I hope this works for everyone. I'm already too excited.

You hate me... You truly hate me!! LOL!! I'm going to watch for now but I have a feeling I'll be in this one too! She would look amazing with my Living Dead Dolls in the living room!! LOL!! Is this going to be an on going thing?

VivaLaDiane 07/23/2010 #

I might do a few of these Jen. Why can't you join?

ForbiddenFruits 07/24/2010 #

This would be a great swap to join, i so wish i was a sewer :-( i cannot sew for toffee. Great swap tho guys.

VivaLaDiane 07/24/2010 #

You could use a cheap barbie type doll. I can't sew either.

JenHuff 07/24/2010 #

I need to clean off my dashboard for one... second, I've never altered a doll before!! OK call me chicken shit! BUHAHA!! I'm kickin around the idea not too sure how to make the guts. LOL!! Spaghetti?! Nah... that would mean I'd have to sort of cook!

VivaLaDiane 07/25/2010 #

Chicken shit. HAHAHAHAHHAAH just kidding. But you asked ;)

JenHuff 07/25/2010 #

BUHAHAHA!!!! Yes I did! LOL!!

Jazza 07/25/2010 #

I love the idea but i am more of a dotee maker.

ForbiddenFruits 07/25/2010 #

Ive never altered a doll before so im going to have a go see what i can do before i decide to sign up :-)

JenHuff 07/25/2010 #

I think the dollar store has some Barbie wannabes.

agonysdecay 07/28/2010 #

Jen, I had never altered a doll before until my last swap here on Swapbot. It was hard, but interesting and a great learning experience. I would love to join this, but a month really isn't enough time for me! My partner and I had to extend the swap two different times....this mostly based off of our daily schedules.

As for clothes, just DIY up some already made barbie clothes.

Watching...

Saristotle 07/29/2010 #

Fantastic idea! I can't wait to alter mine :)

Jazza 07/30/2010 #

I would so love to see the dolls that come out from this, can we have a group on flicker where peolpe can add photos?

VivaLaDiane 07/31/2010 #

^Great idea. I will begin that sooooooooooooon.

Hellotheremary 07/31/2010 #

WHAAAAAT! This is amazing! I want to join, but I've never altered a doll before. But it seems like a lot of the others haven't either.

ElizabethObviously 07/31/2010 #

make sure you include grapes...I read somewhere many of the victims had grapes in their stomach or near them. It is thought that Jack used these to lure them to him. I think including tiny grapes would be...very realistic lol

doublesided 08/ 1/2010 #

Ive been missing the swaps because I forgot to sign up for notification when swaps were listed - sorted now!

This swap sounds amazing fun. Ive never altered a doll before and have no idea how I would do a casket - thinking it over and watching just now.

VivaLaDiane 08/ 1/2010 #

I will have you all know that I've never altered a doll either. I aim to keep a cool and dark area around here and as of yet, I know of no professional doll alterers here. I think it's a lovely and interesting challenge and respect anyone who tries.

Elizabeth4510, you are correct. The reason I wanted to do this swap was to reintroduce myself to the Ripper...so I intend to rewatch the beautiful movie FROM HELL (oh NO, I HAVE to look at Johnny Depp???!!!) and read some materials.

Jack the Ripper used grapes to lure the poor whores because grapes were a luxury type food back then. Kind of like caviar or something today.

VivaLaDiane 08/ 1/2010 #

For the casket, if I can't find something better, I will likely alter a food box or something like that. I think I know what I'm doing though :D

Go to thrift stores and dollar shops and use your imaginations. :) I know I get more inspired daily.

biterbuck 08/ 1/2010 #

Fantastic idea. I'm glad everyone else is a doll-altering noob too.

angeldiva 08/ 2/2010 #

I am so torn on this one, I want to join but I'm very nervous about trying to do the altered doll thing, I've never done it before and I'm not sure I have any idea how or what that would be like...I'm watching it for now and I'll have to think about if I really think I can do this any justice!!!

BirdGuhl 08/ 2/2010 #

I love the movie "From Hell" accept for one minor detail....Heather Graham's awful London accent......trust me when I say any British person who watches that movie is either cringing every time she talks or laughing hysterically. She kinda ruined it for me....oh well I can just skip her parts and watch Johnny drools whose quite good with the ol' london accent in it lol

VivaLaDiane 08/ 2/2010 #

@BirdGuhl I don't much care for her accent either. I'm no Brit, but it still bothers me.

agonysdecay 08/ 2/2010 #

Its great that there are a lot of people who haven't tried to alter a doll yet. It is really fun, but really hard too! I think I'm going to have to join because I fucking love horror dolls!

RyeRye 08/ 5/2010 #

I love altering dolls but the whole casket thing is keeping me at bay for now.

MzPatti 08/ 6/2010 #

OK, stay with me people. No pushing.

If you plan to make your victim 6" or less, I have found a casket template.

http://www.holiday-crafts-and-creations.com/easy-halloween- crafts.html

Scroll down the list of holidays on the left until you see Halloween. Click and scroll down to the casket template. (They make them to serve skeleton brownies. yum)

I printed the top and bottom of the casket out on black cardstock

It is hard to distinguish the cutting and folding lines on black but I made copies on white cardstock to use as a pattern to keep.

I found some sweet little 6" porcelain dollies dressed for Christmas at Goodwill for $2.00 each that are soon to have an unfortunate run in with Our Jack.

FYI

You can print out the 6" casket template and take it to Kinko's and they will make it any size you want for very little moola.

Then you can gather your cereal boxes and moving boxes and commence to having creepy, unconventional fun! =X

Roseanna 08/ 7/2010 #

This sounds fun! I am a crafty person, but have never done anything like this before. Soo...I am NOT supposed to make the doll right? Just take an existing doll and alter it?

I might look around for a cheap old doll and see if I find anything!

Doxie 08/ 7/2010 #

ohhhh I sooo wanna do this. I love making altered dolls. Even if I don't do the swap I still love this idea.

VivaLaDiane 08/ 8/2010 #

Roseanna, hey sweetie!! You can make something and then alter it if you'd like.

MzPatti .... Anything might fit in a 6' box IF it were dismembered. Food for thought? =)

VivaLaDiane 08/ 8/2010 #

HEY it's back to school time. If you'd rather make a body bag instead of a casket, go for it.

Whiskey 08/ 8/2010 #

For small dolls, I was at Michael's yesterday, and they had wooden coffin boxes! (About 6" long) Of course they also played an annoying cackling when you opened them, but the voicebox is in a small wooden box glued to the lid and could probably be removed pretty easily.

agonysdecay 08/ 9/2010 #

I just bought 'Americas Serial Killers: Portraits In Evil' at Target the other day. The beginning of the 7 hour DVD collection begins with Jack. Although we can find many things online about him and his victims, this DVD helped me see beyond what I saw online and gave me many ideas. The DVD was only $6 bones. Go get it!

GrrrMeoww 08/21/2010 #

Possible UK shipping costs scaring me a little....eeeek but I just can't resist!!! And now, a moment of silence for this poor barbie.....;P

conniebobear 08/28/2010 #

Mines done! (scared of shipping costs >.<)

GrrrMeoww 09/ 5/2010 #

Just finished the casket~ gotta make the death cert., then she's on her way!
