Description:

I love AmyButler fabric.! Who knew that she had a free scarf pattern here ! You'll need to do one in winter colors! Think of different fabrics, too. Like poly blends! Ooo, suede cloth would be nice! Check your stash! Check the sale tables! 2 1/2 yards will give you 90 inches and enough for 2 scarves!(If you are from a metric country, you'll need 2 1/2 meters and to cut 1/2 meter wide, basically! Keep in mind that yards are bigger. Do NOT rate down for that!!) That way you can keep a beauty for yourself or gift it! Don't forget the trims on sale!! Don't limit yourself to ball fringe. With so many trims out there, get creative. make it nice! You'll need at least a yard for one scarf! Start now! Enjoy!

This will be so cozy in cotton flannel (also known as flannelette, I believe).

Make sure you use a good quality flannel (it really does make a difference in appearance and wear) and prewash it before sewing. (";)

Watching for now...

I was thinking suede cloth or velvet or a textured poly! So many possibilities-so few partners.Sigh!!

The pattern calls for cotton flannel, but it appears that the swap host is leaving the material open. I will ask her to clarify. (";)

knitmom7 has clarified in her swap description that the sender may use any suitable and appropriate material they wish for this scarf. (";)

I'm putting this comment here because dammit I want those sharpies!

knitmom7 12/ 1/2010 #

Well somebody will get them!!

I agree with CraftyRiki, what a nice gesture and I would sure like to win the sharpies!!!! And what is the ball fringe and where do you find it?????

slewis234 12/ 1/2010 #

oh boy, i'm in too! this is cool.

Justa quick question... What is classed as winter colours. It's Summer here in Aus but hopefully I will find something suitable. Watching until I scope out fabric :P

Ok, I am in...what a fun idea a scarf and a giveaway

knitmom7 12/ 2/2010 #

Winter colors are not pastels, basically! What I like to call heavy colors. I'd try a creamy white as a winter color!

knitmom7: The ball fringe is for the 2 short ends. I am concerned that some people might not be able to either find ball fringe, or find a matching colour. Would it be possible to use something else, as long as the 2 short ends have some kind of suitable embellishement? I am thinking maybe a crocheted lace, or a cotton lace, or beads, or tassels...

knitmom7 12/ 3/2010 #

I think that's only fair. Even beads and ribbon, two things would work.

Ball fringe:

TerryF 12/ 3/2010 #

Oops, sorry about that! Darn things won't delete! lol

TerryF 12/ 3/2010 #

Can be found online, e.g., HERE, or at any fabric store in the trims section (sometimes in the home decor section too).

One more note: Actually, meters are longer than yards, at almost 40 inches. And fabrics are usually about the same width (anywhere from 44"-60" wide) regardless of whether they are sold in meters or yards. (";)
