Description:

This (not your typical swap!) is #2 in the morsbags series started by cherrythepig. We are rotating hosting duties and it is my turn this time around.

We have a registered "Pod" at morsbags.com:

Pod name: Swapbot

Pod password: It has not changed - if you are new, please email me for it.

The morsbag website promotes people getting together & having a group sewing & social event, then taking the resulting grocery bags to the market for a giveaway.

Each of us will make as many bags as we can by a certain time, then give them away randomly to strangers. With each bag I plan to attach a tag with the "story" behind the bag.

There is also a label that they ask that you download & iron-on to the bag. If you are unable to print iron-on labels, you may buy them from the morsbags site in increments of 10 labels for a small amount + shipping. (1.44 USD / 1.51 CAD / 0.7 GBP / 1.04 Euros + shipping)

Please Note: If anyone would be hesitant to do this based on shyness, they can always send them to me & I will give them away in my town.

OR

Just give them to people you already know... friends, co-workers, family, your next door neighbor, the bus driver.

There is no specific # of bags that you will make. It's what you have the time & desire to make by the finish deadline. Even 1 bag can ultimately save 80 plastic bags each year from ending up in the trash!

From morsbags.com: Let’s do something positive to reduce the hideous number of plastic bags being used - 1 million are consumed per minute globally - of which hundreds of thousands end up in the oceans, many killing the sealife.

What you will send to your partner is a recap of how it went: how your sewing turned out, what you used to make your bags, where you distributed them, and how the people you gave them to responded.

Since all of the effort will be in the sewing & distribution, you can either email or snail mail your partner.

Check out the Animated Morsbags Tutorial or you can go to the main page, click on "make one", then download a tutorial document.

When you have completed your commitment in this swap, would you please post in the comments below the number of bags you made and in which city (or cities) they were distributed. Remember, even if you only make one morsbag, it is still something to be proud of!

I am not setting any limit on ratings as this is a RAK swap. I can't imagine that anyone would sign up for this and not do it. What would be the point? Plus, that karma factor can come back to bite you on the butt in the oddest, most unexpected ways!

Thanks everyone and have fun!

P.S. Here's the url for swap #1 - there's lots of good info in the comments: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/5478

I have confirmed with Marshmallow that she is still willing to sew morsbags for people in exchange for some fabric. She mentioned that Invisible is also helping her with the sewing. Great ladies!

Please pm either of them if you do not sew but would like a morsbag made. I will hunt up their urls and post them here shortly.

Marshmallow is at http://www.swap-bot.com/member/?id=8261. She has info about this on her profile page.

TerryF,

I'm happy to sew bags too!

TerryF 10/ 2/2007 #

Thanks SewFun! I have included your name in the forum thread about this.

FairySweet 10/ 4/2007 #

Thanks for hosting Round 2 of this swap TerryF! :)

TerryF 10/ 7/2007 #

Uh-oh, another pod is ahead of us by 4 bags right now! Since no one is banned from this swap, anyone who has already made some bags, please go ahead and add your numbers! Thx!

SewFun 11/ 5/2007 #

Terry,

I went and entered my 3 recent bags, but there is a pod nearly 70 ahead of us!

My three made little difference. :(

TerryF 11/10/2007 #

SewFun, every bag counts! I am not concerned if we are not #1, just that we continue to help address the problem one bag at a time. So YOU GO GIRL! Thx!

Knittlebits 11/12/2007 #

I'll be adding my numbers to the Pod. I can whip up at least 5 tomorrow between my children's gymnastics classes.

TerryF 11/13/2007 #

Way to go Knittlebits!

SewFun 11/13/2007 #

I took a quilt class yesterday, and I'm hooked on getting that done, at least the top, soon, but once I get that finished I'll whip up some more bags.

I'm going to hand mine out at our local Trader Joe's, so I think I'll use my Hawaiian fabrics. :)

TerryF 11/15/2007 #

That's a cute idea SewFun!

temair 11/27/2007 #

Terry

Since I am homebound if anyone needs some bags made let me know

Tara

Knittlebits 12/13/2007 #

I made and gave away 8 bags. I'll go update the Pod now!

Knittlebits 12/13/2007 #

Except for the small fact that I don't know the pod password. Whoops.

TerryF 12/14/2007 #

Knittlebits, that's great, 8 bags! I have pmd you the PW.

TerryF 12/24/2007 #

Well, with the holidays and all, I have barely had time to sew for this, and I am leaving for Florida in early January, so it looks like it will be a huge 2 for me! lol I took them to work to hand out (here in Ottawa, Canada) - they went in 5 minutes!

Good luck with your sewing ladies!

Merry Christmas everyone!

ALL SWAPPERS: It appears that we now have a couple of potential flakers in our group (one has been partially suspended and the other is starting to get 1 ratings).

Please pm me if you have not received your email/letter by January 30 and I will be happy to angel you. Thx.

Terry

TerryF 01/ 2/2008 #

Since this swap will soon finish, is there anyone who would like to host the next round: RAK - Morsbags Sew & Give Away #3?

Courtney 01/ 2/2008 #

I could host it, but I see someone in the forums has already agreed to host? It should probably have a signup deadline of mid-March and send by May 1.

Courtney 01/ 3/2008 #

Cool it looks like girthta is planning to host the next swap.

Courtney 01/ 4/2008 #

Our pod is only 26 bags away from 500.

SewFun 01/14/2008 #

I've done 6 bags, and will log them here shortly. :)

I'm also going to be doing another 6 as soon as I've got a few other things around this house under control.

TerryF 01/24/2008 #
