Weekly Newbie Swap

I'm taking over this swap for Mommy's Crafting, who was wonderful enough to hand me the reins, so I will be providing future weekly newbie swaps. However the rules and ideas behind the swap are the same as always!

Welcome!! This weekly swap is set up to help serious newbies get ratings quickly, without skimping on a quality swap. The key word here is QUALITY.

This will be an International swap since you can easily customize a light weight package.

This swap will be open to ALL new swappers WITH a filled out profile. This is very important! I have to be a bit tougher on this one… after feedback from some swappers I find it essential that you have a good profile. Be sure to read the links below about creating a good profile. I will no longer be able to contact you if I feel you need to add more to your profile before the start of the swap. Reminding folks to fill out their profile is taking too much of my time. Fill out your profile & then sign up for this swap. Follow all the directions in the description or you will not be able to participate in this swap.

Other swappers are also welcome to join, I will be checking profiles though. I reserve the right to ban anyone with a poor swapping history.

What will we be swapping? Anything you want. Let’s send our partners our best. Once partners are assigned you will have the weekend to create something wonderful for them. You will need to go check out their profiles and choose items you think they will love. Now this swap doesn’t have to cost much, just your time. Some folks have requested a monetary value, I’d say minimum would be $10. Please do see my examples below & check out the photos on the flickr group above for some ideas of great swaps.

Do you knit or crochet? Maybe you could send a dish cloth, a recipe and a lovely homemade card.

After reading your partner’s profile did you feel like you have a lot in common? Send them a lengthy pen-pal letter along with some homemade tags.

What about a hobby or favorite craft? You could send a journal & pretty pen to a writer. Or some nice yarn for a knitter.

These are just ideas, get creative and send your partner something you’d like to receive. Something you’re proud of.

If you are brand new to Swap-Bot, then please take the time to familiarize yourself with the site. Be sure to read the FAQ Page to your left, it will answer 99% of your questions.

Remember to:

  • Fill out your profile, for some ideas you can click here and here

  • Create a nice package based on your partner’s profile.

  • Be sure to include a note to let your partner know who you are and what swap your package is for.

  • You do not have to send a homemade item, just remember most of us love things others make especially for us!

  • Be sure to send your package on time!

  • Don't forget to rate your partner. Everyone will be putting a lot of thought into your package, it's only right to let them know you received it and to give them the rating they deserve.

  • Please contact your partner before rating anything lower than perfect.

  • Please ask questions, I want everyone to have a wonderful swapping experience!

NOTE: Be sure to post pictures of your swaps to the flickr group!!

I really want to join but i've been flaked in the weekly newbie swap #7.. Really disappointing..

stephaniedavies 10/ 5/2007 #

I'm sorry you were flaked on, and you know that coordinators try to prevent that from happening. With that being said, it is impossible to guarantee that ANY swap on swapbot will not have any flakers in it....further, the chances of you being assigned that exact same swap partner that flaked on you before (IF they even join this swap, and IF I let them through checking to see if they have not sent any swaps before) is about 1000:1. So I'm sorry you had a poor experience in a prior swap but that really has no bearing on this swap here :)

I have Weekly Newbie Swap 10 up and ready for signups also at: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/8245

May I suggests that newbies remember to include their favorite or hated colors & crafts in their profile?

stephaniedavies 10/13/2007 #

That's definitely a plus Kylanicole - The more your profile is filled out, the easier it is for your swap partner to figure out what nice goodies to send to you AND the better items you will receive. However if your partner doesn't mention something specific in their profile, it's probably because they didn't think to put it in there, so it would probably be a good idea to message them through swapbot to ask specific questions about their likes and dislikes and suggest that they also put the answers in their profile for future swaps :)
