There are some great free downloads on flyfi.com and even itunes that free to the world. NPR has some fantastic concerts easy to find to rip and pass out.

There is a thread regarding mixed CD swaps under the Help topic in the Forums right at the top. I think maybe it should be read before proceeding with the swap.

I'm not breaking any CR rules. all music I listen to is copyright free, plan-it-x bands for example. or music from my friend's bands. the punk/breaking the law thing is a joke to another swap.

oh also demos from bands are not copyrighted, unless officially released (i.e. deluxe edition bonus cds), so people can use them if they want.

by the way, jerry garcia welcomed everyone at grateful dead shows to bring in tape recorders, etc... he thought everyone should be able to share the music. ;-)

Yeah a lot of bands I know encourage their fans to bootleg and record their shows, I think it's really cool.

it has nothing to do with the swap-bot police. It has to do with staying within the rules of the site and the law.

Not all people know what non-CR music is. THAT'S why I posted what I did. We're a long ways away from Jerry Garcia.

I run an indie record label, so I talk to lots of bands who make one or two mp3s available for free and would be thrilled to know that one appeared on someone's mix cd (especially if it led to the recipient buying the whole album!) So this type of thing is definitely not hard to find (just be respectful and only use the songs they've made available, cuz otherwise you're kinda screwing over the little guys).

@AndrewLips - not mix CD related, but I saw one of your other swaps, and we should totally do Robert Smith-themed swap sometime. :)

also every song on rcrdlbl.com is free for download. it's songs that the artist and record labels have picked to be given away for free as a way to get their music out there.
