Description:

The continent of Atlantis was an island
Which lay before the great flood
In the area we now call the Atlantic Ocean.
So great an area of land, that from her western shores
Those beautiful sailors journeyed to the South
And the North Americas with ease
In their ships with painted sails.
To the east, Africa was a neighbor,
Across a short strait of sea miles.

The great Egyptian age is but a remnant
Of the Atlantian culture.
The antediluvian kings colonized the world;
All the Gods who play in the mythological dramas
In all legends from all lands were from fair Atlantis.

Knowing her fate, Atlantis sent out ships to all corners of the Earth.
On board were the Twelve:
The poet, the physician, the farmer, the scientist, the magician,
And the other so-called Gods of our legends,
Though Gods they were.
And as the elders of our time choose to remain blind,
Let us rejoice and let us sing and dance and ring in the new...
Hail Atlantis!

Way down below the ocean, where I wanna be, she may be...

[lyrics by Donovan]

You may not know it yet, but you have a postcard that reminds you of Atlantis. It may have a ship with painted sails, or an Egyptian, or a magican, or someone dancing. It may have a map. It may simply show the ocean, or way down below the ocean.

Or you may choose to make this postcard.

You will send it to your partner, naked--unless they ask in the comment section for an envelope.

Hail Atlantis!

If it's not too much trouble, I'd like Atlantis to arrive safe and sound in an envelope.

I love the way you talk. :O)

Wait, is this another Donovan reference? Is it going to be "Sunshine Superman" themed cards next?

JeJune 01/25/2011 #

Oh, duh, you said that in the description. Great minds something something.

Awww, Atlantis was supposedly laid out in enormous concentric circles, wasn't it? Like a herb spiral, yet neither herb nor spiral? I want in...! (I'm trying to stay out of all new swaps...) :'(

FiWebster 01/26/2011 #

ooo, I love spirals! Even concentric circles will do, in a pinch. That would make a good (easy) homemade postcard for this swap: just concentric circles on a blue (for water) background!

Why are you stayin' out of all new swaps, @papercaper

Exponential fine-encial* woes plagued me when I roughly calculated how much money I spent on swaps last year. It was hundreds and hundreds! I didn't have hundreds and hundreds, yet I showed no restraint. Have learnt not to bang head against same brick wall. Am seeking new brick walls! :D PS- *was the rhyme really worth the fake-Kiwi ecksent? PPS- May join yet. Thinkin' thinkin'...

papercaper 01/30/2011 #

PS - On reconsidering the NZ accent, I think they might even pronounce it 'icksent' (at least, to my Aussie ear), which makes me think it's Seth Efrikens who say 'ecksent'. I, of course, pronounce it correctly! :D PPS - Since it.s only 1 partner, not 3, I will join. I will! I will!
