Description:

I was browsing through some ATC galleries and came accross this genre. Pure creativity. I love the whimsy of it! So, here it a swap to give it a whirl.

You will create 2 ATCs for one partner. Let your imagination run wild. Any technique is welcome, but lets keep it sticker-free. I've had a bit of a flake-issue in some of my last swaps so I will be checking ratings carefully and will have to ban folks that give me concern. Sorry about that, but yeah.

Please make sure that your cards are of standard ATC size and have a sturdy backing. Kindly include your name, the swap name/date and the title of your card.

Here is a definition of Steampunk to sort of solidify the theme for those of us who are new to it. I'm also adding a couple of links to galleries for inspiration.

Steampunk: An imaginary Victorian age England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of HG Wells and Jules Verne.

It features brass and copper clockwork and steampowered inventions that go far beyond 1800′s technology. Steam powered mechanical wonders, optimistic gear driven computers, dirigibles, goggles and stuff like that.

WOW! A Steampunk based swap! This is so awesome! I'm not sure if I can do a proper ATC, but the idea sounds amazing to me --

Thanks leticia! I'm excited about it :) Consider joining us!

Damn you, I was taking a break from swapping but can never resist a steampunk ATC swap.

Folks, there is a Steampunk group here on Swapbot and I invite everyone to join. Please visit Seampunk Dandies. :D

FINALLY!!! I was about to quit this for awhile because I've got skunked a few times here lately with ATC's that were horrible! They were little more effort than cutting out a cereal box back and pasting a sticker. I just recently discovered the steampunk genre and love it! Hope everyone gets a good one!

I agree, what's with Swap-bot lately? it's like pulling teeth to get a rating, a decent swap, if anything at all. I have never done one of these steampunks but am willing to try. Can't wait to see what they will look like! excited!

Oh a Steampunk group! I'm there! Really looking forward to this swap. Lots of participants already. Almost done with my ATCs, too!

Just a quick question - I understand the need for an ATC to have specific dimensions, but does anyone mind if it won't actually fit into one of those little clear envelope things? (Because I was wondering if we were allowed to use 'chunky' embellishments, such as real cogs etc on them?)

starrgazer 04/26/2011 #

I have been doing a ton of steampunk stuff lately! I did not realize there was a group for this either....

InFlorida 04/27/2011 #

@Kessie It is really a matter of preference. I personally don't mind texture and embellishments, unless they are HUGE and take away from the overall card. I've used smallish gears and washers, bits of chain, etc. with great results.

Could someone please email me pics of ATC's that they have made or received so I can get an idea of exactly what they are? I am new to swap-bot but love crafting. I appreciate any emails

@hthrhere I think the best way to see a LOT of ATCs is to go to www.flickr.com and type ATC, or even go to Google images and do the same (in Gloogle, best use Artist Trading Cards)
