Description:

Sisters are wonderful gifts. It's fun to do something special for those who are such gifts in our lives. Here's a unique way to really surprise your sister. For the purpose of this swap, your sister could be your blood sister or someone you identify with like a sister, such as the friend who is like a sister to you.

For this swap, you will send a package to your partner's SISTER. The package should include at least $15 worth of stuff. What you send can be handmade, store bought, or a mix of both. Make the package look really nice. You could wrap all the items or use fun packing materials or include fun notes...whatever you'd like.

Remember, someone who probably doesn't know anything about Swap-Bot will be opening this package. They'll need a little help understanding why they got this box of "stuff." Include a card letting them know what this is and include your partner's name -- not screen name. My sister would not know who AshleyShea is.

After you sign up for this swap, leave a comment below listing some of your sister's favorite things. Keep the price limit in mind. If you mention something that costs more than $15, it won't be helpful for the person who will be making a package for your sister. If you only list items that cost about $15, your sister may only get one thing. Include favorite colors, crafts, goodies, hobbies, etc.

When you receive a notice of who you are supposed to send to, e-mail that person to get the name and address of her/his sister and any last-minute tips for making an extra-special package.

This swap is not open to newbies. (Sorry, you need a bit of experience first.) You must have a rating of 4.8 or better on at least 5 swaps by the time the swap assignments are made. I will check ratings before swap assignments are made and boot anyone with no sends or who appears to be slacking off on their swaps.

The send date isn't until the end of January to give us plenty of time after the holidays to put together fun packages. But you'll know who your partner is while you are doing Christmas (and after Christmas sales) shopping so you may be able to pick up a bargain or two.

I know its a long list but she's an odd one to buy for. :)

I should have enough ratings by the time this ends so I will sign up now or I will forget!!

My sister is a single mother of three boys. Her favorite color is purple, she loves anything to do with the ocean. Favorite animal is a Dolphens. Favorite cartoon is the little mermaid.

MissU 11/18/2007 #

My sister's name is Nadia. Right now she is 9 months PG with her first child, but by the 15th she should be a new mom (Due date is the 1st of Dec.) Don't know if it's a boy or a girl yet. Will update. She likes flannel PJs (med-Lg), bath and body works food scents (vanilla, apple, cinnamon, cookies), those felt stocking kits that you sew up, likes baking, non-fiction forensics books (case studies on crimes; the gorier the better). She is a guidance counselor at a 7-12 school, her husband is a HS English teacher, so they both do a lot of traveling in the summer, well, probably not so much any more! She's pretty easy to please.

My sister is a swapper so I hope she does not find this one! She loves to knit - she is working on a nativity scene and needs small bits of yarn (2 yd pieces). She loves Hot tea - especially chai and spice tea. She is a school teacher to 5th grade. She loves lotions and shower stuff. Her favorite color is yellow and peach. She loves to read - historical fiction, children's books for the classroom, literature. She loves hand made stuff - she truly appreciates the work involved. She also loves candles - burns them all the time and does cross stitch.

Oh!! I wish this was US and Canada! My sister would LOVE some things. International is a little too expensive, and I have a feeling if I did a Canadian only one that I wouldnt get too much interest :P. Let me know if youll be making a US/Canada one at some point! I'd definitely join.

My sister is "Beth". She loves pink. Mini Faerie type shoes, black cats, ATCs, charms, midieval, renassiance, and celtic things. victorian paperdolls, true crime books, ghost/haunted house books. She is special to me, let her know that. Thanks

CADLady 12/ 6/2007 #

My sister is "Nita" and she's just 2 years younger than I. She's my best friend. She's been a dental hygienist/office manager of a (tiny town) dentist's practice for more than 30 years! She collects "tooth-y" things (natch!). She never could have kids of her own, so she's always spoiled-rotten all the kids in her dental practice. Most of them are now bringing THEIR kids to see her too! She makes little "love presents" for them all the time. (craft stick airplanes and ribbon-bedecked hairpins, beaded ponytail ties and tiny cars made from beads)

She lives near the Okeefenokee Swamp and likes little alligator things too. The last time I visited she had one of those concrete "alligator swimming thru the grass" stepping stones in between the azaleas and the marigolds!

She's a kind, gentle, country lady, whose home is decorated in those infamous "dusty" blues and pinks. She does silk-flower arrangements for fun, but also likes pom-pom crafts and making ornaments.

Some packet ideas: satin-covered styrofoam balls, pom-poms, glitter glues, beads, florist tape/wire, ribbons (wired or not), sequins, etc.

CADLady 12/ 6/2007 #

Oh, yeah....Nita's b/day is in February! How perfect is that??!!!

MissU 12/ 9/2007 #

Update!! My sister had a baby girl last week!! We are so happy. She named her Madeline, like the story book character. She loves that character!

thatzghetto 12/10/2007 #

Sorry, but I'm going to have to drop this swap for right now. The bounus we were supposed to be getting from work isn't going to be here after all so I'm cutting down on my larger swaps. I hope everyone has fun, and that your sister's are all suprised and spoiled. :)

5elementknitr 12/11/2007 #

My sister collects elephants.
She crochets and loves hand-painted yarn.
She is an amazing cook and loves to peruse cookbooks.
She has a lot of down time at her job, so I'd definitely give hearts if there was a list of free web-sites with games other then solitaire!
She has a 6 year old daugher and likes crafts they can do together (she subscribes to Family Fun magazine and finds lots of inspiration there).
She also enjoys hot chocolate.
If you email me, I can give you her address so you can mail direct to her!

Hi there,

My person I would like sent to is my friend Katrina. We have known each other for 16 years and she is definetly like a sister to me. She loves to knit, and it is actually a form of therapy for her. She also loves tea and likes to try new flavors. She has 3 children and is a wonderful mother. She likes chocolate and kitties. Also fun smelling lotions, and she would definetly enjoy anything handmade. (She used to make handmade cards) Please pm me for her address and if you need more ideas.

Hello- My sister is my closest friend, I love the idea of suprising her!! She is finishing her Phd in Biomed Research working on HPV, she loves (is obsessed) with knitting, spends much of her downtime reading and has a morning ritual of coffee, cigarettes and crosswords, she is a vegetarian and cooks a lot, she likes listening to music, and playing with her kitties.

Her favorite things are: Knitting (check out her blog at www.cakesthatarehot.blogspot.com) Reading/Books (Fiction literature, knitting books) Smoking Crosswords Anything for her two Kitties Science Indie Rock/Pop Music Cooking Martha Stewart's Living Magazine Interweave Knits Magazine

Let me know if you need more ideas.

AshleyShea 12/14/2007 #

My sister loves to do crafty things. She's better off with a kit that includes everything she needs. She's very creative and loves getting ideas for using things around the house to make cute crafts.

While she likes candy, she LOVES cookies!

She likes scented bath things. I am going to try and find out her favorite scent and update this before the swap starts.

She likes to decorate her home with things that look like antiques, like a little miniature spinning wheel, an old-style kettle, a wash board, etc. She loves old milk bottles and cans (the metal cans that were tall enough to use as stools). She'd collect the real thing if she had the money to do so. She's happy with little ornaments or other decorations that look old but aren't.

Katie 12/15/2007 #

My sister's likes:

  • neutral colors (brown, cream, olive green), and also pink
  • "chick flick" movies ~ if you want to know if she has a certain one, just ask!
  • items to pamper ~ lotions, face masks, etc
  • OPI nail polish
  • candles
  • Starbucks
  • fancy hot chocolate would be fun!

She does NOT like anything cutesy or cartoony, Kawaii or anything like that!

Thank you so much for taking good care of my sister!!

Katie 12/15/2007 #

Oh, and she loves to take pictures, so picture frames are a great idea! :0)

jeaniel23 12/16/2007 #

My sister is Chrissy and she lives in Denver. I am in Chicago, and I miss her terribly! She will LOVE her swap package, very easy going person and likes the following:

LOVES to craft, see our etsy site, she does scrapbook boxes and bookmarks. Loves unique beads for the bookmarks.

She reads a lot! Fiction is great, chic lit and suspense, but not anything too romance-y

Loves little, meaningful knock-knack type things (at least that's what I get her haha!) picture frames?

John Mellencamp, big fan!

Anything handmade she would love!

sports (is athletic trainer, likes White Sox, Rockies and Bears)

plays softball and runs

She eats healthy and drinks one cup of coffee a day

loves popcorn

is a busy mom, 2 kids and could use some pampering stuff, but no candles, she has too many of them.

She is one of the best people and friends I know, she's is one cool chick and I love her so much! Thank you in advance for surprising her!

ATTN: BLUECRAYONS

I sent multiple messages (SB, Yahoo, & AOL) asking for your sister's address. You sent me a TON of great info/hints but you never sent me her address.

SINCE I HAVE NEVER REC'D THE PROPER ADDRESS FOR SENDING TO YOUR SISTER AND HER BOX HAS BEEN SITTING READY TO GO OUT SINCE JANUARY 3rd, I HAVE JUST NOW MAILED IT OFF TO YOU.

I wish it could have been a surprise, but as your message to me today indicated, you've been calling her to ask about the package. I guess now you'll get to SEND IT TO HER yourself. If you'd sent me her address, likely SHE would be calling you.

Ah, well. I'll seal in a letter of apology, and maybe she'll understand that you didn't communicate her address in a timely fashion.

Disappointed that I couldn't send it direct....:(
