What is a Junque Journal? A junque journal usually starts out with a composition book that if FULL of decorated pages. Look on YouTube and Flickr for examples.

Here are some:

For this swap, you will decorate at least 10 pages for your partner, using any media and techniques. You will also add 10 - 15 sticky notes on other pages to prompt your partner. For example, "Blue page", "Text page", "Altered Magazine Face", "Found Object page" and "Circle page".

This is an ART journal as opposed to a hand-written, soul-searching, soul-defining journal. This is a fun way to test out art techniques and use all of your odd and unused and untried art materials.

You can decorate the covers also and personalize it for your partner when they are assigned. You can begin the page-decorating part of this swap before partners are assigned.

Have fun!

(This is a USA-only swap. If someone wants to do an international version, go for it.)

So is it cool to post pics of our pages somewhere? Since no one knows who'll be sending to them, it seems safe enough. I had a blast trying all sorts of stuff, knowing that someone besides me would work in it later. I'm new to SB and don't quite get where/if pictures get posted. Seems some swaps have a photo album thing and others don't - coordinator's choice, I assume. Thanks!

Hi, Is their a size requirement? Thanks.

smmarrty 06/10/2011 #

I'll start a Flickr group for this and we can continue to post photos as we work on the journals once we receive them.

The size requirement is a standard composition book - which measures 9-3/4 by 7-1/2 inches.

On a personal note, I added paper to two pages and it looks hrrible so I will be visiting the dollar store and starting again!

I created a group called "Beginner Junque Journals" on Flickr. Join the group and post your pics.

And I ripped out one page of the ruined pages and I think I can make it work, as Tim Gunn says.

I uploaded a few photos to get the Flickr gallery started. Please add yours.

If you use watercolor or some type of paint, will it "bleed" thur to the back of the next page?

Leslie52 06/12/2011 #

I put up a bunch of pics in the Flickr group. I used to wonder why people used comp books cause the paper was thin, had lines, etc, but working in this one has been a lot of fun and I think I'm hooked. I'll see how it goes working in the one I get back.

Jjean - it depends on the book. I tried gesso-ing a few of the pages and it didn't whiten the pages enough. I have a really cheap book from the dollar store and the pages are very thin. On the pages where paint "bleeds" through, I will collage or add something else.

If you use watercolor etc...put some kind of protection behind the page...like wax paper. It will help the bleeding. I like this idea for a journal as you dont have to "think" about it. Just doing it is a great freedom.

Thank you for the help and I ck'd out the pictures...very nice....starting mine tomorrow......fun swap.

I'm not joining this swap but was passing through. I noticed that your hostess @Smmarrty gave you a link for Tangie Baxter's Junque Journal Link.. there are I think 2 or 3 other videos with that link to follow. I used Tangie's directions for make my Junque Journal and it came out perfect, SO perfect I refuse to make another and give it away ! It took me HOURS to get through the entire book and INK the pages. If you use other media (such as Gesso) It will stick you pages together, watercolors would be GREAT and if they bleed through all the better to add the color to the other pages. I adhered down scrapbooking papers on numerous pages as well. I'll post some of my pictures on your flickr thread if I can figure out Flickr (Haha).. I have been using my Junque Journal for MONTHS now.. LOVE IT !!

I did figure out how to post my pictures on the Flickr Page.

I really enjoyed this swap. It was so much fun making the journal. I loved how open it was and that we could be designed or random. I really hope that you do another one like it soon. I love the journal that I received and am having fun filling up the blank pages too. Thanks!
