Description:

This is a swap for those quick mystery reads that are everyone's guilty pleasure. For those who don't know what a cozy mystery is, it generally involves a non-gorey crime and contains very little violence, sex, or coarse language. By the end of the story, the criminal is punished and order is restored to the community. The character solving the crime is often an amateur sleuth who becomes involved because of personal reasons but can also be a professional with real personality.

In this swap you will have one partner that you will send one mystery book to.

It is my intention that you will be passing along something you read and enjoyed, but that is still in good shape. Creases in the spine is perfectly fine, but missing covers/food stains are a no-no.

It is also my intention that this will be a monthly recurring swap. So keep that idea in mind when you read the book (ie. you may want to pass it on someday)

I'd really like to see this take off so I am delaying the sign-up through the end of the year, and putting the first mailing in January.

If this proves popular - I am willing to consider more specific themes than just simply "cozy mysteries" If you want to be really thoughtful you can check in with your partner - maybe give them a list of books that you are thinking of passing on and see if there are any they haven't read, etc. However, to get a full 5 all that is required is that you get a cozy mystery in the mail.

You must have a rating of 4.7 to join, and atleast one "real mail" swap for something more than an ATC or a Postcard. (although if you have done a whole bunch of these I'm more than happy to let you in.) If you're a newbie and really want to be in on the swap pm me and we'll see what we can work out - I hate to eliminate people on that alone - we were all new once. :) I also have a real pet-peve of people who have completed only 5 swaps and are signed up for 20 or more all of which occur in the next month - it makes me nervous.

Anyone care to post some authors that fit this category? We have a wonderful used bookstore 10 minutes away and would love to find a cozy mystery to read!

I've had asome questions about what constitutes a "Cozy mystery". In general, if it's got some tof the characteristics listed above you should be fine. Think of those mysteries that form a series. Often times they have a recognizable theme.

Anyway, I set up an Amason list of some of what I found - it is by no means definitive (they limit you to 40 books) but it at least might give someone some inspiration. http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/listmania/fullview/R325OOUXU7S8Y5

hysterical titles!! I love the ones with tea since I'm in a tea yahoo group and have been a tea swapping fool:) I can't wait to go to the used bookstore with a list of titles/authors.

I had to sign up, I love quicky mysteries. I'm going through "The Cat Who..." series right now, and I think I have most of them, so please don't send me more ;D. But I love a good Agatha Christie, and don't have any on my shelf. Also, I know there's a series out there about a coffee shop, I'd love something from that if you have a copy laying around. But I'm up for anything really, so don't stress yourself searching. I enjoy reading new authors. Can't wait for this one to start!

Used book store temporarily closed due to illness, bummer:( I did go to my hometown library and check out "Steamed" The Gourmet Girls Mystery Series. Great book and fits into the cozy category!
Check out the link poofsizzle set up on Amazon and you'll be amazed at all the series of mystery books. I love Nancy Drew growing up and can't believe I haven't read a fiction book in years!
THANKS FOR THIS SWAP! I have really enjoyed my reading and stayed up till midnight the 1st night reading since the murder took place early in the book:)

I've never heard them called this before, but I do enjoy these kind of books from time to time. :)

I'm looking forward to this swap!

This looks fun! I am currently re-reading the Rita Mae Brown and Sneaky Pie Brown books (they are great.) I have also read the Cat Who books and books by Laurien Berenson. I like books about animals or crafts, like knitting. I think that it is neat to have something other than just a mystery, sometimes you can learn something too. Like did you know that the poodles show haircut originated when they hunted?

Have partners been assigned? I don't see a partner to send to, but I do see my "unsent" link. Just wondering...
