About Me

I see many people have this disclaimer, so I will add one too. Please let me know if you haven't received anything from me, or need me to send postage because I didn't put enough on. I want this to be fun for me and the people I swap with, I don't want to be a problem. Just contact me if I need to make something right.

I'm a retired mother of boy/girl twins and enjoy getting things in the mail. I live near the Blue Ridge mountains in Virginia with my husband, although I grew up in New Jersey. I say I'm in exile here, I would go back if I could afford to do that.

In my previous NJ life, I got married in 1991, and worked as a chemical lab technician, a useful career in industrial NJ. I worked for Anheuser-Busch in their baker's yeast plant; and then for Union Carbide, after their disaster at Bhopal, in R&D wire and cable. I really liked that job, but my husband was very unhappy in his job and got a job offer in Virginia. I was seven months pregnant with twins at the time, and unlike NJ, VA is not known for its industrial livelihood, so besides raising children and a couple of part time jobs, I haven't worked in years.

I'm an avid needleworker, I do cross stitch, needlepoint and surface embroidery. I enjoy sending and receiving postcards, I like almost all types of cards, even boring ones. I'm a beginner at paper crafts, but since I've joined Swap-bot, I've been learning about many crafts and have dabbled in a few. I don't feel I'm especially artistic, but a good technician. I keep pushing myself to be better.

I read A LOT. I mostly like cozy mysteries, but have drifted into more hard core detective novels, and the occasional nonfiction nature book.

I look forward to meeting and swapping with everyone.

Allergies

Food allergies: I don't have any life threatening allergies, but I avoid soy, dairy and peanut products.

Likes and Dislikes

Likes and dislikes: I'm interested in many things, and I'm a Gemini, so my likes can change in an instant. I'm really struggling with what to write here, I like lots of things.

A person can't go wrong with me if it involves black tea, anything to do with tea, interesting buildings, historical places, animals, gardens, sunrises and sunsets, nature, and funny sayings. I really don't want to discourage creativity, so remember these are guidelines, I'm interested in everything.

My current reads include authors who last name starts with G. Right now it's Susanna Gregory's medieval mysteries set in Cambridge, Veryl Ann Grace's spinning mysteries, and soon I will get back to Sarah Graves. Why the letter G, you ask? My sewing and reading chair is next to one of my many bookcases, and the letter G mysteries are right next to my chair. They keep calling me as I sit there, insisting I read them next. I'm cross stitching an Alice in Wonderland themed pattern, a fantasy castle and a new pattern of a fox in the woods.

I don't like cruelty, anything with graphic violence, or jokes making fun of something a person can't help like ethnicity or a birth defect.

Comment: Delicate card actually arrived in good shape. I hope he is a Virginian as I am. I feel badly about statues being removed. I worked once at the Medical College of Virginia. I believe the name was changed. I am from Bedford.

Comment: OMG! if your reading list is lower this month than usual you must read I book a day. I thought I was doing well if I can get two books in a month. Thank you for sharing. Last good Mystery I read was "Where the Crawdads Sing"
Response: Not quite a book a day, but usually I read more than I did this month. I like light books, so they tend to go faster than "Where the Crawdads Sing." :)

Comment: Hi Judy! I absolutely adore this postcard you chose for me! I don't see the Appalachians too much (although I'm going to the Smokies next week so, kind of!), but I grew up in a desert surrounded by mountains so this card definitely brought a smile to my face. Thank you so much for sending it my way! <3
Response: I love the desert, so different than back East. Enjoy the Smokies, they are lovely too.

Comment: Thanks for sharing your reading with me. I too read mysteries much of the time so enjoyed reading your mini-reviews. I agree with you about the Elly Griffiths -- she seems to me to create good locations and well-constructed plots. I'll avoid the Tim Harrington - thanks for the heads-up! Like you, I might well have assumed it was cozier than it turned out to be. And you've given me a push to try the Ellery Adams Secret, Book and Scone Society series. I've been reading and enjoying her Book Retreat series so it would be worth trying another one. By the way, your email ended abruptly in the middle of the Killings at Badger's Drift. If there are more books that I didn't get to see, please send me the rest of the email!
Response: Yes, there was one more book. I will try to send again.

Comment: Thank you for the vintage card from Helen Keller's home. Fascinating life she had! Where in NJ did you used to live? We live next to Princeton, about 10 minutes from the University. Sounds lovely where you live now! I am not a NJ native, I grew up in Aspen, Colorado and miss it dearly!! hope you are enjoying some crafting time this weekend! x g
Response: I lived in Princeton, grew up in Kendall Park. My husband and I met contra and English Country Dancing, and still have friends from dancing. One couple lives on Harlingen Road in a cool old house.

Comment: Thank you for the Virginia map pc and sharing your weekend. The dunk tank sounds like a lot of fun . . . well . . . as long as I'm a spectator, not being dunked! :) Take care!
